Jonjo O’Neill warns Soaring Glory is likely to swerve the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival in favour of Aintree.
The Jackdaws Castle trainer currently prefers the Grade Two contest at the Merseyside track as a spring target for the Pat Hickey-owned gelding.
After tasting victory on his first two starts, Soaring Glory – as short as 16-1 for the Champion Bumper – saw his winning run come to an end when finding Israel Champ too strong in a Listed contest at Ascot.
O’Neill said: “Soaring Glory is having a little break now, having already had three runs this season.
“He ran a cracking race at Ascot, and was beaten by a good horse. He won on that sort of ground the time before, and there was no excuse. It was a very good race.
“Pat isn’t that keen on going to Cheltenham for the Champion Bumper, so I would say he would either head to Aintree or maybe over to Ireland.
“He is an exciting horse and will remain in bumpers this season.”
