Neil Mullholland will consider both the Coral Scottish Grand National and the bet365 Gold Cup for his in-form veteran Doing Fine – but will tread carefully first en route to those high-profile spring targets.

Doing Fine made a flying start to 2020 with victory at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day – which helped make up for the disappointment of being first past the post in the void race at Sandown last month.

Mulholland said: “He’s come out of it well – he’s gone up 6lb in the handicap for it.

“He’ll be going for those staying handicap chases. It will be the end (of season) ones we’ll be looking at – the Scottish National and the bet365 at Sandown.”

The 12-year-old won in the mud at Cheltenham but has often fared best on a sounder surface, and Mulholland added: “In between, we’ll just be tip-toeing around with the ground the way it is.

“He’s finished fourth in the Scottish National before and ran well in the bet365 in the past, and other races like that.”
