Chris Gordon plans to give Commanche Red the chance to take his career to new heights in the 888Sport Pendil Novices’ Chase at Kempton.
The Winchester-based trainer has earmarked the two-and-a-half-mile Grade Two as the next port of call for the seven-year-old following his impressive course and distance victory in handicap company on Boxing Day.
Gordon said: “We are going to give the Pendil a go. He is in great order, but he is having a little break at the moment and the better ground will help him.
“He did it very well over course and distance on Boxing Day and Paddy Brennan gave him a lovely ride, as you would expect from a jockey like him.
“The owners are not to fussed about Cheltenham and this might just be an easier graded race for him.”
Highway One O Two could join his stablemate at Kempton, with Gordon leaning towards giving the dual Plumpton scorer an outing in the Grade Two Sky Bet Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle.
He added: “Highway One O Two will go for the Dovecote on the same day.
“He has come out of that last Plumpton race very fresh. He nearly got rid of the trainer two days after the race!”
