William Haggas is hoping One Master can add one more piece of silverware to a bulging trophy cabinet in Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Mile, which will be the final start of her outstanding career.

The six-year-old – who made history last month when she became the first horse to win three editions of the Prix de la Foret – has unfinished business in the Mile, in which she finished an unlucky fifth two years ago behind Expert Eye.

She is one of only two runners Haggas has sent to the US championships previously and at Keeneland the trainer will be aiming to bookend a brilliant 2020 season that began with Addeybb landing two Group One prizes in Australia.

“It would be wonderful,” said the Newmarket trainer.

“I think she is a fantastically consistent filly. She ran a hell of a race two years ago at Churchill Downs when she finished fifth, beaten a length by Expert Eye.

“But she was drawn terribly that day. She was drawn one, it poured with rain and it was much slower on the inside. Providing the ground is not too firm I am sure she will run a good race. We think she is in very good form and has travelled well.”

Though she excels at seven furlongs, One Master has proved versatile over trips from six furlongs to a mike, winning seven times and earning nearly £1 million in prize-money.

She will be having her fourth start of the autumn, having gone down by half a length to Glen Shiel and Brando in the British Champions Sprint on her latest start.

One Master is drawn in stall nine at Keeneland, where she will be ridden by French champion jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot, who has formed a special bond with the mare.

“Pierre-Charles has a lot of confidence in this filly,” said Haggas.

“It will be her last race, so it will be fairytale stuff if she wins. We are looking forward to running her.”
