Silvestre De Sousa stormed past the 50-winner mark for the year with a terrific treble at Ripon.
The three-time champion jockey took the honours at Yorkshire’s garden racecourse with a 13-1 trio – courtesy of Winter Power, Delph Crescent and Pythagoras.
De Sousa needed just one winner to reach the half-century, and wasted no time when steering Winter Power home in the Download The Free At The Races App EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes.
The 6-5 favourite, trained by Tim Easterby, shrugged off the challenge of main market rival Risk Of Thunder to score by two lengths. The pair pulled six lengths clear of Miss Nay Never by six lengths.
“She was very uncomplicated there,” the Brazilian jockey told Sky Sports Racing.
“She’s got plenty of speed and she was dropped in grade. We tried to keep things simple.
“Today she gave me a better ride and was more settled. She did it nicely, and I didn’t have to touch her to ask her to lengthen.
“Black type would not be out of the question.”
De Sousa then gave Delph Crescent (11-4 favourite) an enterprising front-running ride to comfortably land the attheraces.com City Of Ripon Handicap.
Olympic Conqueror was the only one to get close, but he was shrugged aside as Richard Fahey’s five-year-old swept to victory by five lengths.
“He had a low weight on his back and showed a good attitude from the gate. I just had to keep stretching him,” said De Sousa.
“He did it well from the front, and got the job done very nicely,”
The treble came up with Pythagoras in the Visit attheraces.com Nursery Handicap, despite a few anxious moments.
The 4-5 favourite had nowhere to go over two furlongs out – but once De Sousa was able to switch, the race was over, with the Fahey-trained youngster going on to score by eight and a half lengths from Rishworhian.
Paul Mulrennan got in on the double act with wins on Ron Thompson’s Cheap Jack (11-2) in the Free Tips Available On attheraces.com Selling Stakes and Challet (6-1) in division one of the Watch Free Race Replays On attheraces.com Handicap.
The latter’s trainer Michael Dods also took the second division with Mustaqbal (9-2).
The concluding Sky Sports Racing On Sky 415 Stayers Handicap resulted in a dead-heat between Reassurance (5-1) and Kitty’s Cove (4-1) – and suspensions for the two riders concerned.
Ella McCain, who claims 7lb, was banned for seven days for using her whip above the permitted level. David Nolan, rider of Kitty’s Cove, got nine days for a similar offence.
