Confidence is high in the Golden Sixty camp that he can beat Beauty Generation in the Celebration Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday.
Golden Sixty is three years younger than the eight-year-old Beauty Generation, and arrives on a winning streak that consists of seven races going back to September 2019.
He will be ridden by Vincent Ho, who enjoyed a spell riding in Britain last year partnering six winners.
“Golden Sixty is a bit stronger both mentally and physically; mentally he’s a lot calmer this year. It’s exciting, even being back on for gallops – it’s great to be back on him,” Ho told www.hkjc.com.
“He feels great – he’s working well, and his last gallop felt good.”
Beauty Generation is aiming for a fourth win in a row in the race, but will have to concede 17lb to his younger rival.
“There’s quite a big weight allowance for us, but it’s his first-time racing against the big boys, so it’s good to have the handicap on our side,” Ho said.
Zac Purton rides Beauty Generation again as the veteran has his first run for David Hayes, who has returned for another spell in Hong Kong, after previously being trained by John Moore.
“He’s had a little bit more time between runs this time than what he has previously, and obviously he’s had a stable change as well. He’s got a different training regime, but the horse seems to be really well,” said Purton.
“His trial was good and we know he goes good fresh. He’s got a good gate albeit a tricky one, but we’re going there with some confidence – let’s see if he can do it four years on the bounce.
“He’s certainly a horse that enjoys leading, he gets into a nice rhythm when he’s in front and that’s when he’s been at his best and most effective, so we’re not going to reinvent the wheel too much, I think.”
