Clive Cox sees Coppull as “a bit of a forgotten horse” ahead of his tilt at the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai July Cup Stakes.
The son of Bated Breath was a high-quality juvenile for the Lambourn handler who regularly excels in the sprinting division and having made a winning return at Ascot on their Trials day for the Royal meeting, lost little in defeat when eighth in the Commonwealth Cup.
He finished the best part of six lengths adrift of likely Newmarket favourite Venetian Sun on that occasion, but having headed home those on his side of the track at Ascot, Cox is confident Coppull can play his part on Saturday afternoon.
Cox said: “He wasn’t disgraced at Royal Ascot and on reflection he wasn’t best placed on the day with it being a movable feast with the draw.
“He won his side of the race and he’s a bit of a forgotten horse in the July Cup as far as I’m concerned. I still hold a lot of confidence in the fact he is a high-class performer.
“He was a Group Two winner and Group One placed as a two-year-old and won the Pavilion on his first start this year.
“I’m thrilled with him and he’s had a really nice freshen up since Ascot and seems in great order.”
