Expert Analysis
This Group 3 proved less informative than it might have been, the pace steady early and slowing markedly around halfway before a late sprint. Arabian Crown was always in the lead and got an excellent ride, the third and the fifth shaping as if they had more to give.
ARABIAN CROWN got an uncontested lead and made full use of it, James Doyle slowing the gallop mid-race and stacking up his rivals. He has looked quirky in the past but is dangerous with a soft lead.
SONS AND LOVERS was off a break, carrying a penalty and racing over a trip short of his best, so ran well in the circumstances. He raced in a good position tracking the pace and holds an entry in the Melbourne Cup, one of a strong team for his trainer.
PURVIEW took a keen hold in rear and finished well, the run of the race not suiting. It remains to be seen if his mark of 118 is true, but this was not the race to judge him on and he is worth another chance.
GAUCHER was well-positioned and looks flattered by this result.
THREAD OF GOLD was one of the least experienced in the field and raced in rear, badly positioned as the race went. He finished well up the near rail and is worth another chance having been on a stiff upward curve prior to this run.
JAMES J BRADDOCK was weak in the betting, returning from a break and having been gelded. He should be better for this run, and slower ground will suit, while he is another with a Melbourne Cup entry.
PIAZZA SAN MARCO had a bit to find at this level though would have preferred a more truly run race.
IN MY TEENS remains with one standout effort in her flat career, a premier handicap in June, and has found life tougher in Group races since. She does have a hurdles mark of just 113, however, achieved when her yard was quiet last winter, and connections will likely be keen to exploit it at some point.
GREEN IMPACT disappointed, especially considering his excellent record at the track. He was one of the first off the bridle and was soon beaten.
GOODIE TWO SHOES was running over a trip short of her best and was never involved.
