Verdict
COUNTY FINAL has progressed rapidly since making his debut last May and will be suited by this test of stamina. The Eric McNamara-trained gelding opened his account in runaway fashion at Navan in September and after finishing second to subsequent winner Kotkito Bello over an inadequate 2m1f at Punchestown, again filled the runner-up spot behind Kazansky in a 2m7f Grade 2 at Limerick. Champagne Kid is bidding for a hat-trick after scoring over an extended 2m4f here at Christmas, while Duke Silver had several of these rivals behind when successful over a similar trip at this venue last month. Dippedinmoonlight and Son Of Anarchy are others to consider.
Expert View Verdict
COUNTY FINAL heads the betting and is potentially thrown in back in a handicap based on his game runner up effort in a Grade 2 last time. That form will be tested earlier in the card and his previous handicap defeat is forgiven as he was given far too much to do over an inadequate 2m behind a subsequent winner. Stepped up to staying trips he can continue his progress at the expense of the admirable Staffordshire Knot. The progressive top weight was only caught late by a Grade 1 winner in the Galmoy just last week and looks on a fair mark returned to handicaps. If the race doesn't come too soon he holds strong claims given his class edge. His stablemate Wendrock is also respected off what looks a generous mark based on his juvenile form but he does have some concerns regarding the trip and ground. Dippedinmoonlight caught the eye last time where she fared much the best of those forcing an overly strong pace and she remains unexposed in handicaps. She should have more to offer over staying trips and can fight for a place with Road To Home who returns to hurdling off what looks a fair mark based on his hurdles form.
