Expert Analysis
A truly run Middle Park Stakes with a race finishing speed percentage of 97.78%. Despite this, the overall time was still marginally slower than the fillies managed just over half an hour earlier over the same course and distance. While the filly’s renewal may have been an above average one, this Group 2 contest appears a little more ordinary.
ORTHODOX was a little slowly away but quickly made ground to race in midfield. He travelled best as he edged towards the near side as he made ground on the leaders before making his challenge. He drifted towards the centre as he started to tire in the final furlong but just did enough to get the verdict narrowly from Force Noir. Sprinting certainly appears to be his game as he just about saw out six furlongs.
FORCE NOIR made the early running, setting a strong pace from the outset. He was pushed along to maintain the gallop from outside the two-furlong pole. He kept responding to his jockey’s urgings to his credit and rallied again despite this being his first start beyond five furlongs.
HELL OF A SPIN raced alongside Push The Boat Out in the final third of the field. He travelled better than that rival and was making ground when he had to switch a furlong out. His effort flattened out a little near the finish, but it was a step forward on previous efforts.
PUSH THE BOAT OUT was the first to come under pressure, quite early in this contest. He was struggling two furlongs out but started to find for pressure and saw this out better than his rivals. He is possibly ready for further, even at this early stage of his career.
INNER CITY BLUES tracked the early leader. He made ground gradually from halfway and loomed up on the far side of Force Noir with two furlongs left to run. He was unable to sustain his effort under pressure though and weakened in the final furlong to fade into fifth.
MARCO POLO was prominent early on and moved alongside the early leader, Force Noir, before halfway. He lost his position in the penultimate furlong though and weakened over a furlong out.
CONFUCIUS was held up last of the seven runners and never passed a rival throughout.
