Expert Analysis
This mile handicap for three-year-olds can often have plenty of unexposed types as one might expect. The race tends to produce plenty of winners later in the season and not just in other handicaps, with many progressing into Group company.
The winning time was slower than the Bet365 mile, but not by much and was similar to that of Cicero’s Gift (fourth in the Group 2 contest carrying 6lbs more).
LAUREATE CROWN has clearly improved from two to three. He arrived off the back of a recent win on the all-weather off a 6lbs lower mark and continued his progress here. He was slowly away before settling in rear, tracking the favourite, Organise, for much of the race. He caught the eye when pulled wide in the penultimate furlong and when they hit the furlong pole, he responded nicely when asked to quicken for a cosy half-length success. Much will depend on what the handicapper does with him after this.
ORGANISE broke well and was a little keen in the early stages before he got some cover. His lack of experience, relative to the winner who was quite professional, might have been the difference. This was his handicap debut after a pair of comfortable successes, and I’d say he would have learned plenty. He is certainly one to keep the faith with, as there is scope in his current mark.
NOBODY KNOWS was also having his third start after a pair of novice wins and is another open to improvement. He was the first of the three to lay down his challenge and when passed I thought he might fade out of it, but he stayed on really well again late on to almost grab second. Based on all his runs to date, I would think it is definitely worth trying ten furlongs, and a current mark of 89 could underestimate him.
CAPALL RASA chased the leader early and led briefly around two furlongs out. He didn’t lead for long, but kept going to be beaten three lengths, eased slightly near the line. He didn’t have a recent run like the three that finished ahead of him, so is entitled to improve fitness-wise.
SUSPENDED SENTENCE also lacked a recent run and might have got tired in the final furlong as his effort faded noticeably.
GOODWOOD GALAXY was far too keen and looked like an awkward ride with his low head carriage. His profile is starting to look a little regressive.
LOOK TO THE STARS ran no race in a first-time hood, he was never travelling and was beaten a long way from home.
