Verdict
Westridge was an impressive winner of a valuable handicap at Glorious Goodwood and has to be respected, although an 8lb rise demands more. As a result, preference is for GREEK ORDER, who has been running consistently well in top mile handicaps this year and the step up in trip could bring about improvement. Erzindjan's fourth in the John Smith's Cup over C&D brings him into the equation, while Marhaba Ghaiyyath and Tony Montana are others who could make the frame.
Expert View Verdict
Impressive Goodwood winner Westridge is likely to prove popular on his favoured fast ground. However he did benefit from a strong pace to aim at that day which he might not get here so he could be vulnerable off top weight to the highly regarded GREEK ORDER. He has shown that he retains his ability the Michael Bell yard this year and was unlucky not to be closer in the Golden Mile last time after meeting trouble. He is now only 2lb higher than when runner up in the 2023 Cambridgeshire and remains unexposed at 10f. The steadily progressive Marhaba Ghaiyyath was only narrowly denied by a useful French recruit last time so heads the list of dangers along with course specialist Zain Blue who is expected to bounce back on this quicker surface.
