Chillhi won this last year and although forced to carry 4lb more than his official mark and has not been at his best since, he has to be considered. At The Oche reverts to hurdles after being brought down at Worcester but still looks high enough in the handicap, and PIGEON HOUSE is preferred. Pulled up in a far better race at Market Rasen, his June second at the same track gives him every chance.
The class angle in the race is Pigeon House who has shown a useful level of form in both codes in the UK and Ireland. He will be dangerous if allowed to dictate but AT THE OCHE has been progressive for his new top stable over fences and can take advantage of a drop in class back over hurdles. Though his recent improvement has come over further he was a 2m winner in this discipline for his old stable so he should have the required speed. Raffles Nobu has been in good form in low grade handicaps recently and can complete the tricast.

King's Scholar has taken well to hurdles winning at Southwell and Worcester in May and is respected on his return from a break. Gambino has a similar profile and is also hunting a hat-trick after a pair of victories at Cartmel, but the nod goes the way of PIONEER PETE. The O'Neills' six-year-old stayed on well to win at Worcester in June, despite some sketchy jumping, and he is more than capable of further progression.
A strong novice for this track which can go to GAMBINO who has looked a very useful recruit to this discipline. He was still green when defying a penalty at Cartmel last week beating a useful rival and he should be tough to peg back at this venue. Pioneer Pete has proven progressive this year and brings in some strong handicap form from Punchestown. He will need a stiffer test but if getting one he will pose a big challenge along with King's Scholar. The hat trick seeker's maiden win has been franked emphatically and he gets weight from his main rival due to his jockey's claim.

Langton Wold hasn't been seen over hurdles since finishing second at Sedgefield in December 2024, but has been kept busy on the Flat and won't be lacking race fitness. He can go well off his current mark, though he may struggle to get the better of JET PATROL, a C&D second last month who was beaten less than two lengths. Racing off 2lb higher, this looks a decent opportunity for him to go one better. Western Soldier is better than the bare form figures imply and appeals most of the remainder.
SAUCATS did too much too soon last time but could be tough to peg back dropped in trip at this sharp venue. He's been in excellent form off similar marks this summer and will once again be suited by the sound surface. The same can be said of Genbu who was yet to be asked for his effort when coming down last time. If his jumping holds up he may prove the biggest danger ahead of Jet Patrol who has bounced back to form recently and once again has the assistance of Sean Bowen.

Breaking Cover tends to save his best for Newton Abbot and recorded his fourth win at that venue when returning the easy winner last time. With that in mind, CAPTAIN COOL is preferred given he's won two of his last three starts over these fences and beat the former when third here in July. Jennie Candlish's charge looks worth sticking with on that evidence and can reverse earlier running at the track with Sir Tivo.
When Captain Cool, Breaking Cover and SIR TIVO contested a race here earlier in the summer the latter came out on top and may be able to repeat the feat. He was unable to confirm form with the former last time but he failed to stay 2m3f and bled. With an easy lead likely down in trip and Sean Bowen still in the saddle he should be tough to catch. His only feasible competition up front is Gower Prince who was a ready winner last time. His 7lb rise is partially offset by his jockey's claim so he may prove to be the main challenger.

However she has gone up another 2lb and may be vulnerable to some better handicapped rivals. Huckleberry Sting often catches the eye with how he travels and merits respect after securing a third victory over fences at Market Rasen last month. However, a 6lb higher mark requires another career best from the seven-year-old and slight preference is for Newton Abbot winner DANNY'S FRIEND. Christian Williams' charge enjoyed a return to 2m5f that day and there could be more to come over this slightly longer distance. Gone In Sixty is a feasible alternative with Sean Bowen booked to ride.
Huckleberry Sting has been in good form this summer and is likely to be all the rage despite a further 6lb rise for his cosy victory last time. However this is his toughest task to date and he could be vulnerable off top weight. GONE IN SIXTY is an exposed maiden over fences but he's been running well over hurdles of late and that form has worked out well. Returning to chasing off a much lower mark with Sean Bowen in the saddle he could prove good value. Jack Doyen is also of interest having banished his enthusiasm doubts in the spring with a trio of victories. If fit he will be a major player but he didn't get far last time so may still just need this.

With solid recent form thin on the ground, this could prove a suitable opportunity for PARIKARMA to gain a belated fourth victory over hurdles. Sam Drinkwater's mare arrives on the back of a solid third at Market Rasen and a similar performance may see her capitalising. Leave Her To Me lurks on a dangerous mark and is a potential fly in the ointment on the back of a wind procedure, while Mistral Blue got the better of the selection at Uttoxeter in mid-June but does need to shake off two lesser efforts since.
PARIKARMA can snap her long losing run. She's been in good form throughout this year on a sound surface and her latest midfield effort looks strong form. She remains 4lb below her last winning mark and is picked to defeat Blackwater Lilly who hasn't added to her maiden win. She is however well treated on her best efforts from the spring and arrives fit from the Flat. At a bigger price the unexposed Liasse D'Argent who still looked green on her recent handicap debut is considered. She shaped with promise in a maiden here and is likely to improve for the step up in distance.
