The Botti family are synonymous with racing in Italy and have created a dynasty of jockeys and trainers that can be found all over Europe. In Britain, Marco (Botti) set up his yard at Newmarket whilst his cousin and uncle, Alessandro & Giuseppe, respectively, decided to move to France and train in Chantilly. “I really like it here in Chantilly,” confirms Alessandro, the Italian handler, who rode for about two years as a jockey before weight issues forced him to switch to training.
“I used to work as an assistant in our family business but came to France in 2009 to set up my stable.” The yard regularly returns to Italy to raid their races and this year recorded thier first victory in the UK when they sent Honor and Pleasure across the Channel to win the Betway All-Weather Vase Marathon at Lingfield.
The stable star though is Amilcar who won his first Group 3 this season and is now being aimed at the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest. Here, Alessandro kindly talks to Liz Price for attheraces.com about ambitions for the summer meeting at Deauville.
