For most people all roads lead to Rome, but not for Italian-born trainer Andrea Marcialis.
He preferred to take the Way to Paris, literally. After a couple of trials, the jockey turned trainer based himself in Chantilly permanently two years ago and his yard that he started with four horses, today is the home to a hundred thoroughbreds.
Unsurprisingly, Way To Paris, the eyecatching grey that used to be trained by his father Antonio in Milan, came with him to Chantilly and has proven himself invaluable.
Hugely versatile over a mile and a quarter, as well as over 1m 7furlongs, Way To Paris has allowed Andrea Marcialis to play on the big stage from the moment he started training.
After finishing only a head behind Sottsass in the Group 1 Prix Ganay on the Sunday before Royal Ascot, he is now hoping to finally clinch his first Group 1 victory when he lines up in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on Sunday, live on Sky Sports Racing.
Here, Andrea Marcialis talks to Liz Price of attheraces.com about Way To Paris and about some of the younger generation that could follow his stable star.
