Charlie and Mark Johnston have their team in rude form as the family enjoy a busman’s holiday at Goodwood this week, and three winners from seven runners on Sunday are just the sort of statistics they want to be registering as one of their most popular meetings gets underway on Tuesday.
The entertainment during the week will be provided by brother Angus on the guitar and vocals and mother Deidre in her dual role as stable stalwart and lead vocalist and let’s hope their voices will be warmly welcoming a winner or two at a meeting which has provided the Kingsley Park outfit with massive success over the years.
Qaader hit the target in the Kincsem Handicap last year and Charlie is ever the realist on the eve of the big festival. He said: “We know how difficult it is to win these races but if we can get one or two winners, we will be happy enough and we have a good team going into the meeting.”
Charlie kindly talked to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about the horse taking part in five epic days of action on the Goodwood Downs.
