DAVID O’MEARA has continually raised his own bar since starting training in 2010 and with over 850 winners and seven Group 1 winners it is clear that his career remains very much on the up.
Another step forward was made in 2019 when he took his prize money earning to a new high with £2,421,589 and his 130 winners were just short of his best tally. The indications from Willow Farm, in Upper Helmsley on the outskirts of York, are that his squad of two-year-olds are the highest quality they have had under their care to date and O’Meara’s team are chomping at the bit for a restart.
Jason Kelly, assistant to O’Meara, kindly spoke to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about those he hopes can hit the heights when racing gets back under way.

gr f Dubawi – Amazing Maria
"We are excited to have Amazing Maria’s first produce – a Dubawi filly. The dam was a Group 1 winner for us and she is a nice filly and not as big as her mother but well put together and we will be hoping to get some racing into her this season but she will be a good filly next year. The dam show some speed at two but obviously peaked at four and, hopefully she will be a filly who improves as she goes along. She will probably start over seven furlongs."
b f Brazen Beau – Pepper Lane
"She is a sharp filly by Brazen Beau and is a half sister to Infinite Grace who won a maiden for us last season. She has even been showing us a bit more than her half sister at this stage and as soon as we get the green light for racing she will be ready to go. She is all speed and she looks like she will probably want a decent surface or All-Weather but she is a nice filly."
b f Make Believe – Paddy Again
"She is a big strong filly and a half sister to Leodis Dream who did really well for us. He was blessed with a lot of speed and this filly seems pretty similar to that and has shown plenty of toe at home. She is a bigger filly than him and obviously by a stallion that got seven furlongs and a mile. She might be five or six furlongs rather than purely five and she is a nice filly and should be ready to go soon after the restart."
b c Requinto – Love Thirty
"He is a good looking colt who has pleased in all his work and has a very good attitude. He is from a precocious family and there a plenty of two-year-old winners on the page. He looks form a similar mould to what has gone before and he should be ready to run as soon as racing gets going."
b c Elzaam – Coconut Kisses
"He is from a very precocious family and he is a half brother to Ardenode who was a Black Type-winning two-year-old. We have had some good luck with Elzaam as a stallion and he has produced some solid horses with a good attitude and this lad looks the same. He is not the biggest so we will have him out as soon as we can and he has been pleasing us at home."
ch c Mayson – Velvet Band
"He is a nice big horse who has missed little work and he looks like a horse that has a bit of scope. He looks like he will probably want seven furlongs and we will start him over seven furlongs this summer. He is a full brother to Charnock Richard who was a good solid horse and won twice and was placed plenty of times. He would be of similar mould to that."
b c Kodiac – Beautify
"He is owned by AlMohamediya Racing who bought Fayez off us last year and he is the first two-year-old they have sent us. He is a lovely looking horse and we are delighted to have him. He is obviously from a very precocious family and has plenty of size and scope. He has grown into himself a lot recently and just started doing a bit more work and looks a real nice horse for the middle of the season."
b c Dandy Man – Be My Queen
"He is a very good looking colt and is out of a mare that has produced plenty of winners. He is a horse of plenty of size and scope and we have just upped his work recently and he is really pleasing at the moment. He will probably start over six furlongs and he will be a six or seven furlong horse."
b c Make Believe – We’ll Go Walking
"He is a lovely big horse with a lot of size and scope. The dam was a very useful middle distance performer and he is her second foal. Her first foal excelled over nine and a half furlongs. He will be a lovely horse for next year."
b c Intello – Capacious
"He is a lovely looking colt and his sire’s progeny obviously get better with a bit of time. This fella will probably have a couple of runs this season but will be a nice horse for next year. He was bought out of Tattersalls Book 1 by Jeremy Brummitt for 55,000gns and he has a lot of quality."
