ED DUNLOP had made a bright start to 2020 until the Coronavirus put paid to activities with seven winners from only 29 runners and a healthy strike rate of 24%.
The master of La Grange Stables ended the last campaign with 31 winners and £307,811 in prize money and he has shown over the years that he is quite capable of pulling an ace out of the hat in the juvenile division with Global Applause (winner of the National Stakes in 2016) and Habaayib (winner of the Group 3 Albany Stakes in 2009) being top two-year-olds to have advertised his talents in that division.
The Newmarket trainer had some of his finest hours with the wonder mare Snow Fairy and has a bay colt by Frankel from her named John Leeper (after his late father) in his juvenile team but, not surprisingly, he is considered a long-term project.
Ed kindly nominated five of his juvenile squad that he can make sparks fly much earlier in their careers to Tony Elves of attheraces.com.
Please note: Where a horse exists in the ATR database we have linked to its form and tracker profile below, we will update others when they become available.
b c Kodi Bear - Atlas Silk
This colt by Kodi Bear out of a Dansili mare was purchased at the Goffs Orby Sale and is still up for grabs. He is a straightforward compact type, with a strong head and deep girth. He has been doing everything that has been asked of him so far including a nice swinging canter on the Al Bahathri for the first time at the back end of March. He looks relatively early and will probably start out over 6 furlongs and in all likelihood, he will progress to 7 furlongs and a mile later on in his career.
b c Siyouni - Aristotelicienne
This colt by sire of the moment Siyouni out of Aristotelicienne was purchased at the Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale for £200,000. With a strong back page to him Shadwell liked the look of him at the sale as a fast and precocious sort. Since being at La Grange he has done everything that has been asked of him and is very straightforward. He looks racy and I expect him to be relatively early running over 6 to 7 furlongs.
b f Equiano - Edge of Love
This filly by Equiano out of Edge of Love was purchased at the Ascot Sale for £5,500. She is a strong compact filly with a good head and powerful hind quarters. She has always been forward at home finding life easy and has continued to strengthen the more we do with her. She has done two easy pieces of work and pleased me in both of them. I expect her to be early running over 5 to 6 furlongs.
ch c Sixties Icon - Royal Warranty
This colt by Sixties Icon out of Royal Warranty was purchased at Tattersalls for 70,000gns. He is well related and is the half brother to the Stakes-performing Hariboux. A very strong and fluid moving colt he has been showing all the right signs at home and I expect to him to run over 7furlongs and stretch out to a mile later on in the season.
b c Wootton Bassett - Gift of Life
This colt by Wootton Bassett out of Gift of Life was purchased at Tattersalls for 100,000gns. He is closely related to group winners Pluck and Three Hearts and has a strong page filled with black type throughout. A forward-looking horse he looks every bit a two year old in the making and is very mature for his age. He has pleased me at home and did his first piece of work at the end of March which was encouraging. I expect him to start out over 6 to 7 furlongs and he may progress to a mile later in his career.
