EVE JOHNSON HOUGHTON was typically phlegmatic when the pulling of hair might have been a more likely outcome for most when stable star Accidental Agent decided to do his impression of the Hamlet cigar horse in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot recently when planting himself in the stalls - reasoning in the Owners and Trainers suite afterwards that “Nobody has died and we live to fight another day.”
Accidental Agent had put in a performance at the other end of the spectrum 12 months earlier in the Queen Anne when providing her with a first Royal Ascot success with a half length victory, ironically from this year’s winner Lord Glitters and the five-year-old will now be looking towards the Sussex Stakes to put the record straight.
The season has brought the Blewbury trainer 19 winners to date with her latest at Newbury last week when Special Secret lent herself to be a filly of some considerable potential when waltzing away with the novice auction event and dreams of what might be.
The season’s record could have been even healthier, Eve saying: “We have had a lot of seconds lately which is quite dull but at least they are not finishing second last.”
Eve has several under her wing that she hopes can make it another season to remember and kindly spoke to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about her main challengers for the months ahead.
