Fergal O’Brien scraped the paint in his quest for a first Cheltenham Festival winner when Alaphilippe was beaten a neck by Third Wind in the Pertemps Final and Imperial Alacazar finished runner-up in the Plate Handicap Chase two years ago, following placed three placed efforts previously, but hopes are high that success will greet him this time around.
O’Brien has seen the quality of his team improve as his upwardly mobile results have displayed his prowess in his chosen field and in Dysart Enos and Crambo he has two very much live hopes.
Dysart Enos has won her six starts and her three victories over hurdles have been gained with the minimum of fuss as she looks to topple the Gordon Elliott-trained Brighterdaysahead and the Willie Mullins-trained Jade De Grugy in the Grade 2 Ryanair Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle on the Thursday of the meeting.
Crambo has been a more long-term project as his career has developed but he currently sits just behind the Elliott pair Teahupoo and Irish Point in the betting for the Grade 1 Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle on the same day as his stablemate. Crambo showed he belongs in the big league when short heading the evergreen Paisley Park in the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot in December.
Fergal said: “We have all the right ingredients here we just need the right horse on the right day.”
There should be further backing from the Ravenswell Park team in the handicaps and Fergal kindly talked to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about his Prestbury Park prospects.
