Harry Charlton made a very promising start in his first season with his name solely on the trainer’s licence, sending out 36 winners and earning £848,834 in domestic prize money, boosted by Group winners Okeechobee and Time Lock.
It could have been even better, with a luckless finishing run from King’s Gambit in the Group 3 Hampton Court at Royal Ascot just one of many fine efforts in Pattern-race company, though there was some reward at the Royal meeting when Hand Of God landed the Golden Gates Handicap.
Okeechobee, King’s Gambit and Hand Of God will all be in action once again this term, while Charlton has high hopes that impressive Sandown scorer Cosmic Year can develop into a Group contender this campaign.
The quick ground is currently keeping the majority of his turf team under wraps but Charlton appears to have some very bright days ahead, having kindly talked to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about his main hopes for the season ahead.
