Hector de Lageneste was Guillaume Macaire’s assistant for many years before the pair decided to team up in January 2021.
While the move to train under a joint licence might have come as a surprise to some, those who know the artistic, well-read and sometimes considered eccentric 14-time French Champion jump trainer Guillaume Macaire were not.
“If you want your yard to work well you have to be there and that is very difficult when you have horses running all over the country,” explained Macaire in an interview with France Sire.
“When there are two of you, you can share the task. Today a trainer has to be everywhere, from looking at foals, to supervising the training, talking to people, because communication is very important and that takes time.
“Also, when there a two people looking at a horse, you might find it easier to come to a decision or to form an opinion.”
