There was another crossbar rocked in Germany on Saturday when Star Rock was beaten only a head by Sky Full Of Stars in a mile and a half Group 2 event at Baden-Baden and with just a little better luck Hughie Morrison would have already sailed past last years seasonal total of £482,644.
As it is the East Ilsley trainer has already notched up £423,988 in prize money with his 31 winners including six winners in the last fortnight from 29 runners and a 21% strike rate are the sort of figures he will be hoping he can maintain as his team moves into the Autumn. His runners abroad have a similarly impressive record with nine runners all finishing in the first three and reeling in over 260,000 euros in prize money.
Star Rock looks the one to notch an imminent Group success and their looks a strong supporting cast in the staying division with Fun Mac, Marmelo and Nearly Caught.
Hughie said: “We have had a fantastic August and hit a few crossbars and if they had hit the goal then it would looks even better. The horses are in great form and running well and long may it last.”
Hughie kindly spoke to Tony Elves of ATR about his prospects for the rest of the Flat season.
