JAMES FERGUSON has already reached heights in his training career that many could only dream of and in his fourth full season with a licence, he currently harbours hopes of Derby victory with Canberra Legend.
The Australia colt will put his credentials to the test in the Group 2 Al Basti Equiworld Dante Stakes at York on Thursday and he clearly deserves to take his chance having proved successful in both of his starts which included a victory in the Listed Feilden Stakes at Newmarket in April.
Ferguson’s hallmark win last season came at York in August when Deauville Legend landed the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes by two and three quarter lengths from Secret State before another excellent effort in the Melbourne Cup when fourth to Gold Trip and the Kremlin Cottage trainer is currently readying his current stable star for the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Ferguson’s 24 winner in 2022 earned £554,324 in prize money and with 13 winners and £177,138 in the coffers already, there is every chance that new heights will be reached by the end of the 2023 campaign.
Ferguson kindly spoke to Tony Elves for attheraces.com about Canberra Legend and some other very interesting inmates at his Newmarket Stables.
