John Butler has had another productive season with 32 winners under his belt so far, along with the promise of further riches when the All-Weather season kicks in proper.
The star of the show has been the likeable Designer, who won the £100,000 added five-furlong fillies’ handicap for a second year running at York in August and will be looking to gain some black type at Ascot on Saturday, having narrowly failed in that quest in a Group 3 at Newbury in September.
Zain Blue was another to perform well at the Ebor meeting when finishing runner-up to the Aiden O’Brien-trained Battle Cry in the valuable Convivial Maiden Stakes, and unfortunately had to miss his engagement at Newmarket last Friday as a result of the fast ground.
There had been much more favourable news for the Newmarket trainer at Newcastle earlier in the week where Yokohama landed a gamble when winning easily on debut, and Butler has a good few established handicappers that can swell his tally in the coming months.
John kindly talked to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about those that could well see him reach another half century before the close of the year.
