Jonjo and A J O’Neill had a perfectly satisfactory first term with a joint licence when they amassed 72 winners and £1,231,061 in prize money in 2024-25 and they will be hoping that an early-season blip can be erased as they look to soak up prizes in what they hope will be a very busy period from now on.
The Jackdaws House team had to basically shut up shop during a normally hectic November when the equine inmates were suffering from a bout of cold and didn’t have any runners for three weeks.
The pair are sitting on 29 winners and £545,661 in prize money at time of going to press but the tide well and truly turned when the progressive Wilful lifted a valuable Premier Handicap Hurdle at Ascot in December and the signs are positive since, that horses in their care are now very much in full health.
Wilful may be given a step up in class in the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton and some of the more established stars like Monbeg Genius, Crebilly, Saint Davy, Wellington Arch and Wreckless Eric can make their own contributions in the weeks ahead.
There are several in the team with much untapped potential, bumper horse Garrincha one of those looking booked for early success and some unraced members of the squad looking like they can find their way into the winners’ enclosure.
Here, A J O’Neill kindly talked to Tony Elves for attheraces.com about those he hopes can maintain their upswing in fortunes.
