JONJO O’NEILL went to 54 winners for the season when Crebilly landed the novices’ chase at Exeter on Sunday so with a potent Jackdaws Castle army getting ready for the spring, it’s a short price that he doesn’t surpass his 71 winners of 2022-23.

The prize money total is already hovering healthily at £700,000 and there must be a reasonable opportunity to crack the £1 million pound barrier this time around - something last achieved in 2016-17.

Saint Davy, successful in both of his handicap hurdles this season, has been the major contributor so far adding £67,127 to the pot and still looks on the up while Inch House, despite a below par effort at Newbury on Saturday, still looks to have plenty of mileage left.

Iron Bridge was the nearest pursuer to easy Welsh Grand National victor Nassalam at Chepstow in December and a long-distance handicap chase will come his way this term. Monbeg Genius, third in the Coral Gold Cup Handicap Chase to Datsalrightgino at Newbury in December, will be adding to his tally sometime on his return.

There are strong contenders in the novice hurdle ranks took with Mt Fugi Park looking a livewire with success in both his starts and currently carrying an Albert Bartlett entry along with several bumper types who could well be anything.

With his team ticking over nicely, Jonjo O’Neill kindly spoke to Tony Elves for attheraces.com about his prospects for the coming weeks and months.
