In 2024 Kenny McPeek became the first trainer to win the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby in the same season in 72 years. He believes that success has led to getting more money behind him and being able to buy better young horses.

He has won 25 juvenile contests this year and will have plenty of action with horses young and old at the Keeneland's Fall Meet, live on Sky Sports Racing.

THORPEDO ANNA

(Spinster, October 5)

Kentucky Oaks heroine who went to become the 2024 Horse of the Year has had another solid campaign in 2025 winning four of five starts including a nose victory over Dorth Vader in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign at Saratoga.

She only faces four in Sunday’s Grade 1, $650,000 Spinster, but one is Nitrogen, leader of the three-year-old filly division.

“All systems go, she’s doing super,” McPeek said. “She’s never had a bad day.”

BLACKOUT TIME

(Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity, October 4)

Son of Not This Time was second going six furlongs on debut at Churchill Downs then came back five weeks later at Ellis Park and rolled to an 8 3-4-length maiden victory against 11 rivals in a race that produced four next-out winners.

“He acts like a horse that’s got next-level talent,” said McPeek, adding that jockey Brian Hernandez Jr, before he was injured “said he might be the best young horse he’s ever sat on.”

THE GRUMPY RABBIT

(Grade 1 Alcibiades, 10.16 pm Friday)

A daughter of Not This Time was a second-out winter, taking a one-mile race at Ellis Park by six lengths after finishing third in a one-mile turf race at Saratoga.

She does face the daunting task of facing Grade 1 Tommy Jo in the Alcibiades, a race McPeek has won five times.

“The two turns is tricky, I think mentally we got some young horses that are ready for it,” said McPeek, who also runs Go To Girl, a maiden winner in her last start, in this race.

SOLOIST

(Grade 2 Jessamine, 9.44 pm Friday)

This daughter of Into Mischief is one deep on the also-eligible list, but would be a contender if she can get in despite what would be an outside draw.

She was a debut winner and then finished fifth, beaten three-quarters of a length in the Juvenile Fillies Turf Mile at Kentucky Downs.

“She’s teed up pretty well for this race,” said McPeek, who has won the Jessamine four times.

PROWESS

(Allowance, 7.36 pm Friday)

Was a debut winner sprinting on dirt at Ellis before finishing third in the Ellis Park Debutante. She is back to dirt after finishing fifth in the Untapable Stakes at Kentucky Downs on September 7.

GOLDEN GAMBLE

(Allowance, 8.40 pm Friday)

This three-year-old daughter of Laoban ran a respectable third in a field of 12 in her first start on turf and first in nearly eight months.

May be better served by coming from a little further off the pace than she did last time.

RATTLE N ROLL

(Grade 3 Fayette, October 25)

This six-year-old who raced three times in the Middle East - including a win in the Group 3 Holy Mosques Cup - finished sixth in the Grade 2 Lukas Classic but McPeek said “we gave him a race.”

Horse is a two-time graded stakes winner at Keeneland having taken the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity as a two-year-old and the Ben Ali Stakes in the spring of 2023.

MCFASTY

This two-year-old son of Mitole got beat a nose in a maiden $150,000 claiming race going six furlongs at Churchill Downs.

“That was a good run, just a shame Colby (Hernandez) couldn’t get nose down,” McPeek said.

HOLLY’S HOLIDAY & LIBERTY NATIONAL

Both of these unraced two-year-olds, progeny of Maxfield, are expected to make their debuts at Keeneland.

Holly’s Holiday is a two-year-old filly and a half-sister to Velocity, a second-out winner who earlier this year won the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks. Holly’s Holiday is also a half-sister to the first-out winner Open Road.

Liberty National a $525,000 yearling purchase, is out of an unraced dam who is a half-sister to the Grade 1 winner Paynter.
