MARTIN KEIGHLEY bucks the trend of most trainers with runners at the Cheltenham next week as whilst most are crying out for rain the Condicote trainer wouldn’t mind if there wasn’t a drop to fall.
His raison d’etre is the hope that leading light Back On The Lash can have similar conditions underfoot which helped bring glory in the Cross-Country Chase over the three mile and six furlong course as he looks to improve a solid record on that unique terrain.
Keighley has a very respectable 22 winners this term from 162 runners (14% strike rate) and is also mulling over representation from recent recruit Shinji in the Champion bumper if he doesn’t decide to wait until Aintree.
A Festival winner has yet to be added to the CV but Keighley has notched up 21 successes at Cheltenham and he heads into the week with his team in grand order.
Keighley kindly spoke to Tony Elves for attheraces.com about Back On The Lash and some other very interesting prospects amongst his team.
