Dan Skelton could be at the rainbow’s end this season, as he currently stands on £3,302,579 in prize-money in the National Hunt trainers’ title with the prospect of further riches to come at the Cheltenham Festival, which could well take him past the £4 million barrier.

The Alcester trainer had only one winner at last year’s Cheltenham Festival after virtually touching the sky in 2024 with four successes, although that winner was The New Lion, who took the Turners’ Novices’ Hurdle and has had the 2026 Champion Hurdle on his radar ever since.

Skelton also has representatives in the Gold Cup with Grey Dawning, the Stayers’ Hurdle with Kabral Du Mathan, and the Queen Mother Champion Chase with L’Eau Du Sud, while for good measure he also has live chances in the Triumph Hurdle in Maestro Conti and Mares’ Chase in the much-improved Panic Attack.

It doesn’t end there either, with the yard assembling a formidable backing team of handicappers across the four days at Prestbury Park, and Skelton is now eagerly counting down the days until the festival gets underway.

Skelton commented: “We are very proud to have four runners in the championship races that have chances, and the horses we are taking there are in the best shape they can be in. Unless we get unlucky, I am sure we will be proud of their performances.”

Skelton kindly spoke to Tony Elves of attheraces.com during a press day at his Shelfield Green base on Wednesday.
