Expert Analysis

Not the strongest G2 historically, and probably on this occasion also, but the winner continues to be a horse going places. It was an odd event in the run, with Point Lynas getting clear on the lead by about a dozen lengths at halfway, but having to go quite fast to do so, eventually overhauled with only ½f to go. The winner did well to run him down with a 23.06s final 2f (106.7% finishing speed) on ground that was more like “firm” in the straight judged on times.
NEVER SO BRAVE (116+ here, 115+ previously) goes from strength to strength and should not be out of place in G1 company hereafter, for all that this was not the strongest race of its type. Held up going well, he (along with the rest) was about a dozen lengths down on the runaway leader at halfway but made steady headway turning in, was ridden when still several lengths down over 1f out but went past with 110 yards to go and scored readily in the end. He was strong at the end of his outstanding Royal Ascot handicap win and may need a stiff track/strong pace if returned to 7f.
POINT LYNAS (114? here and previously) has shown glimmers of smart form so may not be entirely flattered by this, though his slipping the field (albeit having to go quite fast to do so) does make this effort look a little suspect.
HAATEM (112 here and previously) matched his Wolferton-winning form but is just a bit below the level he was capable of in the first half of 2024, mostly in 3rd before going 2nd briefly around 2f out, staying on when having to be switched inside the final 1f
PRAGUE (105 here, 117? previously) was set quite a bit to do after an awkward start, keeping on and never dangerous but looking a hard ride when first asked to go forward.
DARK TORNADO (88 here, 94 previously)
NOSTRUM (87 here, ? previously)
