James Moffatt appears to have his horses in fine fettle after landing a hat-trick at this venue last Saturday and THE STEWARD could provide the local trainer with more success. Hey Bob has three wins from his last four starts and the 10-year-old rates the main danger, while Hats Off To Larry, who is having his second start following wind surgery after a recent run on the Flat, is by no means dismissed.

LOCK DOWN LUKE proved suited by the step up to an extended 2m6f at Kelso last month, a win for which he was given a 5lb rise in the weights. The six-year-old remains relatively unexposed and he could have much more to offer at this level. Recent Haydock scorer Jelski features prominently in calculations for his in-form stable along with Rukwa and Iolani, both of whom revert to hurdles following recent runs on the Flat.

QUICKBUCK was pulled up in handicap company on his latest outing, but he sets a fair standard and Nicky Henderson's charge could be tough to beat back in a novice event. Largy Reach, who was not beaten far on his hurdling debut last November, could take a significant step forward and is respected, while you can also make a good case for Battle Of Toro in first-time cheekpieces.

Tonto's Spirit, who finished fourth here on Monday, has a good record at this track and a bold bid looks likely if he takes up this engagement. In the event that he misses this race, it may be worth supporting C&D winner SWORD OF FATE, who travelled well when winning at Perth on his latest start. Lermoos Legend was successful when last seen over course and distance and is respected, while Ardera Cross cannot be ruled out either.

16:15 Cartmel (Class 3) (5YO plus)

Rapid Flight got off the mark over fences when winning over course and distance last time and should go well under a penalty. However, Nicky Henderson's CAPTAIN MORGS posted some useful form over hurdles and is given the edge on his chasing bow. Bob's Bar went close at Perth on his latest start and, in first-time cheekpieces, can also have a say.

This can go the way of C&D winner REIKERS ISLAND, who arrives following a point-to-point success at Eyton-on-Severn last month. The nine-year-old finished a creditable seventh in the Foxhunters' at Aintree (albeit beaten 37 lengths), but this isn't as competitive and that could see him back to winning ways under Rules. Glen Forsa must be of some interest along with Purple Harry, who can make his presence felt returned to this sphere.

17:25 Cartmel (Class 4) (4YO plus)

FRIGHTENED RABBIT took full advantage of a reduced mark when recording a three-length success at Hexham last month and he can follow up. Dianne Sayer's charge remains feasibly treated off 5lb higher and the 10-year-old can repel the challenge of Vocal Duke, who ran with great credit when finishing third at Fakenham in April. Timetoroe is fitted with a first-time hood, she drops from 2m4f and may not be far away.
