MAGISTRATO created a big impression when winning impressively on his debut for these connections are Chepstow last month and Paul Nicholls' gelding may take plenty of stopping once again today. Addosh was making eye-catching progress prior to unseating her rider three out in a Listed event at Wetherby last time and she should not be underestimated. Rocky Man was well held by the selection at Chepstow but could still make the frame today, while Knight Salute is the pick of the remainder.

Strictlyadancer has to be respected having won a similar event here last month, but he is 5lb higher today and this appears to be a stronger contest. With that in mind, preference is for OPPOSITES ATTRACT, who found the Irish Grand National too competitive when last seen. Prior to that, the seven-year-old had shown ability in some very competitive novice chases and it would be no surprise to see him go well. Forza Milan has not been at his very best of late but he is another who has been highly tried. Others to note are Milanford, One Forty Seven and Fact Of The Matter.

It is hard to oppose THIRD TIME LUCKI, who created a big impression when winning easily on his chasing debut over C&D last month. The six-year-old was a useful novice hurdler last season and he should be capable of defying a 3lb penalty this afternoon. Captain Tom Cat accounted for Mick Pastor in a Grade 2 at Wincanton a week ago, but Paul Nicholls' five-year-old could reverse that form on 5lb better terms and down in trip today.

Protektorat progressed well over fences last season, including a success in the Grade 1 Manifesto Novices' Chase, and he has to be taken seriously making his seasonal return in handicap company. However, a chance is taken on MIDNIGHT SHADOW, who posted an encouraging third at Aintree last month and he looks feasibly treated off a mark of 147, having won at this course on two occasions. Lalor is another who merits respect having his first start for Paul Nicholls, while Caribean Boy, Coole Cody and Paint The Dream also have claims in an open renewal of this contest.

PROSCHEMA made a pleasing return when posting a promising second in the Grade 2 West Yorkshire Hurdle at Wetherby last month. The six-year-old gelding remains unexposed at this trip and he gets the vote to strike, now pitched back into handicaps. Kansas City Chief was a convincing winner over this C&D when last seen and he commands respect after a 5lb rise, while Sporting John is an intriguing contender reverting to hurdles on his seasonal bow.

In this competitive contest marginal preference goes to the unexposed GOWEL ROAD, who showed plenty of promise when sixth on seasonal reappearance in the Silver Trophy. The step up to an extended 2m3f proved no issue and, after a 2lb drop in the ratings, a mark of 134 may underestimate the five-year-old's ability. Mackelduff has taken huge leaps forward this term and the Olly Murphy-trained gelding rates the most immediate danger. Unexpected Party romped home last time out and warrants respect.

7

15:55 Cheltenham (Class 1) (4YO to 6YO)

BONTTAY arrives in an attempt to maintain her unbeaten status and the four-year-old gets the nod to achieve that feat after showing a determined attitude to get up over C&D last time out. Lady Excalibur has shown plenty of promise on her three outings and the 100,000-euro purchase rates the most immediate danger, while Leading Theatre is another to consider.
