LIEUTENANT CONDE showed the benefit of a three-month holiday when shedding his maiden tag at Wolverhampton in May and with the runner-up emphatically going one better since, a 2lb rise shouldn't inconvenience Hughie Morrison's gelding. El Picador performed only satisfactorily on his handicap bow at Nottingham, but a visor replaces blinkers and he can't be written off. Starczewski has his first taste of handicap action here and does so on the back of a solid Salisbury second.

Train To Georgia was easy to back on his Lingfield debut and took a while to get the hang of things, but he eventually showed his talent by striding two lengths clear of the 71-rated runner-up and looks a useful prospect. Even so, he will do well to successfully concede 7lb to DILMUN DYNASTY, who cost a cool 1,000,000gns as a yearling and has shown plenty of promise at Newmarket and Chelmsford. Saffran made a bright beginning to his career at Nottingham and is a force to be reckoned with as well.

RED ARMADA may have let down favourite-backers on his Newbury comeback but that narrow defeat isn't nearly as disappointing as it seemed at the time, with his conqueror going on to triumph in the Britannia at the Royal meeting. Clive Cox's colt can break his duck here on his way to much better things. Bint Soghaan made a debut full of promise when touched off at Kempton in October, but has been off since. She is still the main danger, closely followed by Recondite and Soft Cover.

Almokhtaar is interesting now that he steps out of maiden/novice company, where he has crossed swords with some useful opposition, but the safest option is BALLET RED. The Harry Dunlop-trained filly has got better with each outing this year and looks just about ready to strike. Orliko will appreciate stepping back up to the distance over which he struck at Brighton two starts ago, and Starlight Red will find this easier than her most recent assignments.

GLAMOROUS CRESCENT proved that a couple of placings at big prices were no fluke when again making the frame as a joint-favourite at Salisbury. She didn't get the best of breaks on that occasion and if she can get away on terms here, today could be her day. Sharqeyya isn't as battle-hardened as the selection but there was some promise to take from her Newmarket return and an initial mark of 61 is attractive. Fellow handicap debutants Aigiarne and Immoral, both in first-time headgear, are feared too.

JUNGLE JUICE has got better with racing this campaign and capped that progression by successfully dropping to this trip at Salisbury. As the victory came under George Bass in an apprentices' contest, she escapes a penalty and should be able to take advantage. Despite not fully settling, Hey Ho Let's Go stuck to his guns well to make the frame on his handicap debut at Leicester and will appreciate a sounder surface. Somewhere Secret, Princely and Jaganory should all make appeal to each-way punters.

Despite the size of the field, not too many of these can be given a chance, with SOVEREIGN STATE's breakthrough triumph over C&D the best recent form on offer. He can follow up off a 6lb higher rating, with perhaps Arnoul Of Metz the primary threat due to his encouraging performances at Musselburgh and Chelmsford. Bluella took a step back in the right direction at Catterick, while John Joiner also showed improvement when third at Nottingham.
