Soft ground clearly suits King's Warrior, who made a most promising first start on these shores when chasing home the well-treated War Poet at Doncaster last month and there are races to be won with him in the near future. Oceanway has been disappointing in three starts this year but he remains capable of better, along with the lightly-raced Flag Officer who bustled up Sea Moon at York when last seen. However, the well-drawn OPERA GAL beat the subsequently ill-fated Fox Hunt over this C&D back in 2010 and with underfoot conditions again in her favour, the mare makes most appeal.
Flag Officer is unraced since June, but his latest second to Sea Moon looks very strong form, and a repeat will see him go close. King's Warrior ran well on debut for Peter Chapple-Hyam and looks a threat, with Absinthe also respected on his first Flat start for Donald McCain.

Top-class winner Wigmore Hall is sure to have his supporters but the 4lb penalty he is forced to shoulder just tilts the balance in favour of the in-form QUESTIONING. John Gosden's 4-y-o has really got his act together this season, sandwiching his Earl Of Seton defeat of Twice Over with two fine runner-up efforts to Penitent, the most recent of which coming in particularly testing conditions at Sandown. He could prove a tough nut to crack from his low draw, although Hunter's Light ended last season in splendid form and is himself proven with plenty of cut in the ground.
Questioning has run with credit on all starts this year and makes most appeal. Hunter's Light and St Moritz are also considered, although soft ground may prove the undoing of Wigmore Hall.

A strong Irish challenge this year with both Aidan O'Brien and John Oxx represented. The former saddles David Livingston, a hardy colt who was a Group 2 winner last year, but he was well beaten in the Ballysax on his reappearance and has plenty of ground to make up with the reopposing CALL TO BATTLE, second in that Leopardstown contest. The selection progressed nicely as a juvenile, winning in Listed company in November, and looks the type to stamp his authority on the middle-distance division as the season progresses. Maiden winners Minimise Risk and Model Pupil both have the scope to progress further, although Dubai Carnival winner Mickdaam promises to excel over this longer trip and is also considered in a fascinating renewal.
Call To Battle had David Livingston behind when second in the Ballysax last time, and while the latter will improve for the outing, John Oxx's charge is expected to confirm the placings. Mickdaam is the strict form pick, and may pose the biggest threat.

Switzerland should appreciate the return to a stiffer test of stamina having failed to sparkle over 6f at Newmarket last time, while Boris Grigoriev has slipped down the weights since joining Mick Easterby and would certainly be worth considering if the money arrived for him. Maiden winners Anaconda and Glen Moss both have the scope to improve now sent handicapping but with solid form already in the book, EVERVESCENT gets the nod. The selection was only narrowly touched off when trying to land a big pot at Musselburgh last month and certainly deserves a decent payday following some fine efforts in defeat last season. Irish raider Seanie is also considered in a wide-open affair.
The unexposed Gabrial was a lot better than the result suggests on his reappearance and can provide his owner with another winner at his beloved Chester. Evervescent could provide the main danger.

A wide draw hasn't helped the chances of Lucky Beggar, who made a promising start when a well-held second to the smart Baileys Jubilee at Newmarket last month. He merits respect and should prove a threat if able to get a decent position early, a comment that might also be applicable to the newcomer Party Royal, who represents a Mark Johnston stable that already has a strong hand in the juvenile division this year. The well-berthed Trinityelitedotcom is bred for the job and certainly warrants respect but ANNALEY MY DARLING did little wrong when second on her Wolverhampton debut and the smart money for her that day suggested she was a filly with a decent future.
Experience could come to the fore around this sharp track and Lexi The Princess is taken to get the better of Annaley My Darling and Lucky Beggar. Her debut effort should have blown the cobwebs away and she is open to plenty of improvement.

Soft ground is a slight unknown but there is plenty to like about the chances of DECISION BY ONE, who improved with racing as a juvenile and signed off his 2011 campaign with a comfortable maiden success at Wolverhampton in November. His previous second to Desert Philosopher looks solid form and his experience around the tight turns of Dunstall Park won't be lost on him today. Gabrial's Bounty is turned out quickly following last week's heavy ground Pontefract success and he heads the list of dangers from proven soft ground performers Rusty Rocket and Master Of Ages. The last named pair both have tricky draws to overcome, however.
Jack Dexter is unexposed, handles easy ground and looks an interesting contender in a race in which a few of the more obvious contenders are badly drawn. Personal Touch and Whisky Bravo are others to consider.

STAND TO REASON confirmed his current wellbeing when returning to action with a smooth success at Newbury last month, his second win in succession, and with underfoot conditions again expected to be to his liking, he should be able to defy an 8lb rise in the weights to complete the hat-trick. It is interesting to see Ryan Moore take over in the saddle today and he is fancied to see off recent Doncaster scorer Calaf, another who has plenty of form with cut in the ground. Of the others, the lightly-raced Cool Macavity rates best of the rest with the promise of more to come.
Stand To Reason is still open to further improvement and he can capitalise on favourable conditions. The unpenalised Calaf and course specialist Granny Mcphee could provide the main opposition.
