VERSE OF LOVE took advantage of a low draw when winning over C&D last September and he now finds himself competing off a 3lb lower mark. Recent evidence isn't all that inspiring but his rider dropped his whip here last month so that weak finishing effort can be forgiven. Hoppy's Flyer found only subsequent winner Just Paul too good at Thirsk last month and remains fairly treated following a 1lb rise. She rates the main danger ahead of Kakapuka, who returned to turf with a narrow second at Warwick, for which he has gone up 3lb.

Watch out for: Hoppy's Flyer (11)

The first 3 home from this event 12 months ago renew rivalry and it may be best to go with Hayek, who is now 9 lb below his last winning mark. Cyflymder is likely to shape better than he did at Pontefract recently, while Hoppy's Flyer cannot be ignored in her current mood.

HESKIN finished with a wet sail to get up in the shadow of the post in a C&D maiden last month and she looks to have been allotted a reasonable opening mark. Further improvement can be expected from Richard Fahey's Acclamation filly and the draw has been kind. Recent Carlisle scorer Atheera has a similar profile and she could take some passing if adopting the same tactics as last time. Shimba Hills and Finn Class are unexposed and look likely improvers for stables who do well with nursery types.

Watch out for: Atheera (4)

Heskin took advantage of the step up in trip and a good draw when scoring over C&D last time and should be just as effective now tackling a nursery. Atheera has improved with each of her 3 starts to date and rates the main danger.

SMART DAISY K produced a smart change of gear when winning readily at Haydock on Saturday and she makes plenty of appeal turned out under a 6lb penalty this evening. A good third over this C&D three starts back, she has bagged a low draw this time around and looks on the upgrade at present. Cosmic Chatter was back on song when third at Newmarket recently and holds obvious claims on that form, while Riskit Fora Biskit has to be respected back in handicap company.

Watch out for: Cosmic Chatter (1)

Cosmic Chatter was arguably better than the bare result at Newmarket last time having raced away from the pace, and a return to this sharp 5f should suit. Riskit Fora Biskit has the ideal draw considering her style of running and ought to be seen to better effect following a disappointing effort at Ayr last time.

Expect Chester specialist Franny Norton to hurry Ifwecan to the front from stall five in an attempt to make all and Mark Johnston's charge will prove a tough nut to crack if granted an uncontested lead. STEVENTON STAR is very well drawn in stall one, though, and may represent good value to those punters who can forgive his latest Windsor Castle performance at Royal Ascot. He's open to more improvement for master two-year-old handler Richard Hannon, while Salford Red Devil can put his C&D form to good use and is another expected to make the frame.

A select but intriguing three-runner handicap can go the way of PITCHOUN. Not many debut winners will have earned a mark of 90 for their exploits in a Bath maiden, but Mark Johnston's charge fairly bolted up over the distance on that occasion and is open to stacks more improvement. Shrewd brings some useful juvenile form to the table and is entitled to be fitter for his Ascot reappearance in the King George V Stakes last month, while Southwell winner Edwyn Ralph shoulders bottom weight and must come into the reckoning.

Top Tip: Pitchoun (1)
Watch out for: Shrewd (2)

Edwyn Ralph makes plenty of appeal judged on his success over Royal Skies at Southwell in March, but he may need this following a 4-month absence. On that basis it may be best to side with Pitchoun, who didn't beat much at Bath, but he was mightily impressive that day and ought to be capable of taking a race of this nature.

A low draw is essential around here and SEE THE STORM, breaking from gate three, looks to have plenty going for him coming into this in such good form. A cosy winner at Warwick last month, he has a progressive profile and is expected to continue to go forward, in spite of another 4lb rise in the ratings. Recent Thirsk winner Green Park is another with a good draw and will have his supporters but he isn't bombproof, whereas the consistent Muftarres can make his presence felt again and give the selection most to think about.
