Richard Fahey holds a strong hand here with a pair of runners in the colours of Dr Marwan Koukash and Thirsk scorer RENE MATHIS, who lowered the colours of high-class veteran Custom Cut that day, narrowly preferred to former course winner Gabrial's Kaka. Sir Michael Stoute's El Hayem should improve on his seasonal reappearance, when sixth at Newbury, and looks the main threat, while Tom Dascombe is never short of winners here and Hillbilly Boy can go close at a course he tasted success at twice last season.

Aidan O'Brien has landed this contest four times in the last 10 years and his CLIFFS OF MOHER, who is high up on ante-post lists for the Derby, can land another victory in the race here for the master of Ballydoyle. The Godolphin colt Bay Of Poets was third behind Cracksman at Epsom last time and is given another chance to put his Derby credentials on the line in this. He rates a danger, along with Mirage Dancer. The son of Frankel holds a Derby entry and was a likeable winner on his only start so far, when landing a Doncaster maiden as a two-year-old.

ROSABELLE managed to make all over C&D on her final start as a juvenile last September despite being drawn widest of all in stall eight. She also won from off the pace over C&D on her second career start last June, so is clearly versatile and gets the verdict ahead of Partitia, who beat the selection over 6f here last year but may struggle to confirm that form over the minimum trip. Evergate looks well treated at the foot of the weights and must be noted, while Tomily should run his usual honest race and Rich And Famous could have more to offer.

The regally bred pair of Midterm and Us Army Ranger both arrive here with something to prove after disappointing on their return efforts when plenty was expected. Both may well improve for the run but they have bad draws to overcome so preference goes to WESTERN HYMN, who has a decent record when fresh and could improve for the step up in distance. The first-time cheekpieces may also help to make a difference with the son of High Chapparal who has been known to race lazily in the past. Red Verdon has plenty of ability and has the potential to prove better as a four-year-old, while Diamonds Pour Moi proved to be over her bad experience at Epsom when winning a Listed contest at Saint-Cloud in the autumn and any rain will assist her chances.

HIGHLAND PASS ran well in all three starts as a juvenile in some very competitive contests and this full-sister to Elm Park should take plenty of beating this afternoon, especially if the first-time hood brings about any improvement. Desert Rain has only found one too good in both of her starts to date and she should be in the mix once again today, while similar sentiments also apply to Gymnaste. Set In Stone is only rated 4lb inferior to the selection, while a bold bid from stall one can be expected from Cheerfilly.

Caspian Prince will need all of his early pace from stall 10 on stable debut for Tony Coyle, while although Double Up has a nice draw in stall two, he has proved frustrating to follow for quite some time and can probably be taken on once more. Reflektor is potentially nicely treated off a mark of 96 and was a non-runner earlier in the week, but perhaps JUDICIAL is the one to beat here. The five-year-old returned to form when an impressive scorer at Pontefract recently and a 5lb rise might not be enough to prevent the only past course scorer in the field from following up.

SUBCONTINENT is a fascinating contender for Venetia Williams, better known for her success with National Hunt horses, and is dangerously well handicapped returning to the Flat if retaining the ability he had as a three-year-old when chasing home some decent types who all progressed as older horses, including Exospheric (formerly known as Exosphere in the UK) and Cymro. Archippos could improve up in trip having appreciated the stamina test over 1m2f, while Croquembouche completes the shortlist.
