It is unlikely we've seen the best of David Pipe's French recruit Garde Ville yet, as he performed below his best on his first run for the stable at Leicester, but with the benefit of stronger last-time-out form to his name, VANDROSS gets the verdict. Although only rated 60 on turf, he ran well for third on his hurdles bow at Fontwell last time. Akdam is penalised for his two previous wins over timber but is no forlorn hope for a place.

Watch out for: Garde Ville (2)

It might be worth forgiving Garde Ville's disappointing reappearance for his new yard and he gets the vote dropped in grade with a tongue tie now fitted. Vandross and Ninepointsixthree both made promising starts over hurdles and are feared.

SEVENTH HUSSAR is up in trip but has landed back-to-back victories over 2m4f on heavy ground at Lingfield by wide margins and, only 4lb higher than the latest of them, he's taken to complete a hat-trick. C&D winner Venetian Lad is 5lb higher than when winning here last season and returned to form with a likeable Plumpton second latest. Beforeall, who was sent off favourite when second over track and trip latest, also looks a live danger.

Jamie Snowden's charge is entitled to improve with the benefit of that run behind her, though there is no obvious reason why she should reverse placings with her conqueror that day, SPIRIT OSCAR, who should be dangerous from the front again, despite meeting on 5lb worse terms. When In Roam has shown ability in bumpers and is another to consider.

Malibu Sun drops back in trip after finishing runner-up over 2m4f last time and should be thereabouts, likewise Little Jimmy, who landed a hat-trick over fences in the spring and was entitled to need the run on his recent return from a break. Preferred ahead of both, however, is MORESTEAD, who is 5lb lower than when scoring over track and trip in May. Placed efforts here and at Lingfield the last twice suggest his turn is fast approaching.

Lightly-raced novice Explained is worth a market check now back from a break but with the benefit of a recent run to his name, Neil King representative BRASS MONKEY gets the verdict. The selection was denied a hat-trick when runner-up over 2m7f here last month but this drop back in trip is expected to suit and the presence of a conditional jockey in the plate may also help from a weight perspective. ALTERANTHELA went down by just a neck over track and trip when last sighted and it may be that the re-fitting of blinkers (which were replaced by cheekpieces last time) could make all the difference as he bids to gain compensation. Princely Hero was outpaced over 2m4f here earlier in the month but improvement is expected now stepped back up in trip as he struck over 3m1f at Warwick previously. C&D scorer River D'or (also engaged to run at Towcester today) is dropping down the weights and is another worthy of consideration.

Watch out for: Princely Hero (2)

Alteranthela is more reliable than most of these, and looks the best option. Ballyvoneen, River d'Or and Princely Hero are also capable of being involved if turning up in the right frame of mind.
