In what looks a fairly competitive opener, WITHOUT EQUAL has serious claims as she remains dangerously well treated competing off the same mark as when winning over 1m4f here last week. That success came in an apprentice riders' race so she escapes a penalty and the decision to turn her out again quickly before her 5lb higher ratings kicks in can pay off. Amana must defy a 6lb penalty for a recent Warwick success but should be considered closely. Terenzium can boast winning C&D form, albeit back in July, while Talk Of Saafend is another danger on the back of her Ripon near-miss.

Miss Blink bids to land the hat-trick but the assessor appears to have taken a stern view of her recent Yarmouth success and the four-year-old filly has gone up 9lb in the handicap. The ground also appears to have gone against her and for those reasons, AMIR PASHA gets the nod after he recorded a creditable third at Haydock last time out on ground which he looks set to encounter again here. Up 2lb for that effort, he drops in class and will take all the beating. Silver Tigress and Jeu De Vivre represent the main dangers.

A positive effort from HAAFKRY at this track last week suggested that he is ready to break his maiden tag at the fourth time of asking. Racecourse experience will stand this son of Haafhd in good stead and he appears to be the most likely winner. Fortune Star and the others with form have yet to show much promise so the newcomers could put up most resistance. Bit A Craic could be suited by the ease in the ground on pedigree, while Bryan Smart's Ptolemaic has a Listed entry and must have been showing a bit at home.

LET'S FACE FACTS is an interesting runner here for Jim Goldie and she could be worth taking a chance on as the daughter of Lucky Story appears to be improving for each run this term. The move up in distance could spark further progress and the step into handicap company can only be deemed a positive. Godolphin's Alareen disappointed favourite-backers on her last outing but commands respect again, as she is entitled to improve. Of the others, Casino Night can boast winning C&D form, while the well-bred Cape Of Dance could also get involved where it matters most.

This maiden contest looks a straightforward opportunity for STRIKING THE WIND to finally score for Mark Johnston. Rarely out of the equation in five starts to date, the three-year-old holds the best form in this race and will be tough to beat. Slow ground is admittedly an unknown and that would be a slight worry for the American-bred colt. His stablemate Shalloon could be one to watch out for under Phil Makin at the first time of asking, but the main danger to the selection comes in the shape of Muffin McLeay, who hasn't disgraced himself on his three starts to date and should be suited by the return to further after a staying-on fourth over 7f at Thirsk.

SHARP SHOES arrives here with the best C&D form, having won on his last two starts here, and despite having gone up 5lb, he is one to be wary of. His recent successful efforts have come with cut in the ground and that is a huge positive for the Ann Duffield representative. Carrie's Magic represents a model of consistency having finished in the frame on all five of her starts this term and Doc Hay must not be overlooked coming into this in cracking form.

It is very hard to oppose the C&D form on rain-affected ground of ON THE CUSP and despite a 7lb hike, he looks the one to beat. Richard Guest's gelding won with plenty in hand last time out, suggesting he remains ahead of the handicapper but Botham can also boast solid course form and remains well treated, escaping a penalty for last week's success in an Ayr apprentice event. Jupiter Fidius was touched off in a head-bobbing finish at Ripon and is best of the rest.
