A wide-open nursery and FLIGHTY CLARETS is only a tentative selection. Richard Fahey's filly didn't showed a great deal in her first couple of outings, including when fourth of five at this track, but she got off the mark at the third time of asking when narrowly beating Grievous Angel at Catterick last month and it's safe to expect further progress. Lady Moonlight lost her unbeaten record when beaten a length and a half at Catterick earlier this month but there's a strong suspicion we've still yet to see the best of her. Ayasha is another clearly heading the right direction.

The progressive PLANETEX leaps off the page shouldering just a 6lb penalty for his easy handicap debut success over the minimum trip at Newcastle a week ago. John Quinn's charge had previously landed a Ripon maiden over tonight's 6f distance and he should take all the beating if this race doesn't come too soon. Bartley was second on the same Newcastle card last week and isn't badly treated on the pick of his handicap efforts, while Lord Franklin knows what is required at this track but takes a considerable drop in trip having struggled over 1m2f at Ayr last month.

Several to consider, not least SPRINGHEEL JAKE who has held his form admirably this term having signed off in 2011 with a nursery victory at Southwell. He was only just denied by Cyflymder over 7f at Musselburgh earlier this month and although raised 2lb for his troubles, the free-going son of Lawman is expected to relish a return to sprinting tonight. Breezolini and Polar Annie are feasible alternatives on recent evidence but top weight Roker Park could be the one to put up most resistance as he has his sights lowered.

Hillview Boy is a big danger in this grade but the three-year-olds receive plenty of weight in races over this far and ASSIZES could be the one to side with. A typically progressive Mark Johnston inmate, he has been hit by the assessor for consistent efforts in defeat but there's still room for improvement as he tackles a longer trip tonight and there's enough in his pedigree to suggest he'll see it out. Lexington Bay and Cape Rising are also hard to rule out with confidence.

Barring the introduction of an above-average debutant, this looks a battle between COTTESMORE and Peak Storm. The latter displayed improvement when a close second over 7f at Chepstow on his belated seasonal return earlier this month and is entitled to be sharper for the outing but the selection has no concerns over stamina. He also progressed rapidly on his latest outing, finding only a Sir Michael Stoute-trained raider too good in a recent 1m4f Catterick maiden, and that form looks solid enough. Donatia could be the newcomer to keep tabs on.

LADY DEL SOL returned from a baron spell to win in good style over 7f at Catterick earlier this month and a 6lb rise doesn't seem overly harsh. Fitted with a first-time hood that day, the same headgear is unsurprisingly used again this evening and the drop in trip shouldn't pose too much of an inconvenience. Piste and Distant Sun represent the main dangers to the selection.
