HAFIT, a 2,100,000gns purchase at Tattersalls Book 1, made a pleasing start to his racing career when scoring at Newmarket last month and the form of that contest received a boost with the runner-up impressing at the same venue next time. The son of Dubawi is capable of stepping forward from that performance and, despite being the least experienced member of this field, he gets the vote. Power Of Beauty finished second in Listed company at Salisbury last time and he must enter calculations, along with Triple Time, a well-related colt who got off the mark at the third attempt here.

LORD GLITTERS appears to be as good as ever based on his fourth in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot and his latest effort when runner-up to a progressive individual at York a fortnight ago. The popular eight-year-old finished ahead of Bell Rock (fourth) and My Oberon (fifth) on the Knavesmire and the pair will need to step forward to reverse that form. The last-named may prove to be the main threat, with connections opting to use blinkers for the first time, while Andrew Balding's charge has been competitive at this level and is expected to be in the mix.

VALLEY FORGE went up 7lb for his victory in the Melrose at York last month but Andrew Balding's colt is expected to have further progression to come with that effort coming on his handicap debut. Vino Victrix arrives in search of a hat-trick of victories having scored at Kempton on his latest outing, while Praiano (fourth) is expected to reverse Sandown form with Oceanline (first) with Roger Varian's colt not having the clearest of runs that day.

RHYTHMIC INTENT has long threatened to win a handicap of this nature and, following an eye-catching effort at York over shorter, he should be primed to strike. Fourth in this contest last year off 1lb higher, Stuart Williams' charge remains well handicapped and can get the better off the progressive Noble Masquerade for one, who is dangerous off bottom-weight. Global Storm must also enter calculations, while Rajinsky is largely consistent and warrants respect. Autumn War and Island Brave complete the shortlist.

STARMAN wasn't disgraced when beaten at Deauville last month and he can regain the winning thread back on home soil. A convincing winner of the July Cup at Newmarket, where he had many of these rivals behind, the son of Dutch Art should relish the return to fast ground. Creative Force is not without claims after a gallant effort in the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood, while Art Power's fourth in the July Cup can probably be upgraded as he raced away from the main action. Runner-up in this last year, Glen Shiel cannot be dismissed either.

In an open race the marginal preference is for JAWWAAL, who was not beaten far by Copper Knight when the pair met at York 17 days ago. Michael Dods' gelding was not helped by the draw on that occasion and could reverse the form meeting his rival on 4lb better terms this afternoon. Stone Of Destiny has dropped to a workable mark and should not be underestimated in a race of this nature, while Mondammej could also make the frame.

FAST MEDICINE has made the frame in both starts since landing his maiden at Chelmsford in June and the application of first-time cheekpieces could help the son of Iffraaj return to winning ways. Perfect Swiss is an obvious danger having been narrowly denied at Beverley recently, while Lasting Legacy and Old News are others who are capable of getting competitive.
