Carraig Na Gcapall must be high on every short-list reverting to a more demanding trip but she may struggle to concede so much weight to the Paul Nolan-trained SHUIL ARIS, who has found only the highly progressive Grangeclare Lark too good in her latest couple of outings (Grade 3) back in April. Major Finnegan and the recent Tipperary scorer Native Royal are likely to prove best of the rest.

With nothing in blistering form, this has an open look to it and a chance is taken with FIZA. He fell in a strong handicap at the Galway Festival on his penultimate start and was again let down by his jumping at the same venue last time. However, he stayed on quite encouragingly that day and could be a major force in this event if the jumping errors have been ironed out. Like A Dream and Rushin' Russian have more obvious claims, but they're far from bomb-proof.

A competitive contest in which few can be ruled out with confidence. Head Waiter is likely to enjoy the step up from 2m, while Mahrajaan acquitted himself with considerable credit when second in a Grade 3 at Tipperary last weekend. Mister Benedictine looked better than ever when winning at Plumpton last month and won't be here just to make up the numbers, but the one that makes most appeal is the progressive BLACK BEAUTY, who accounted for a couple of useful sorts when finding only Dreamy Gent too good at Listowel last month.

BOOTSANDSLIPPERS, a fast-ground bumper winner at Naas last summer, fractured a pastern at home back in May and her future looked bleak when pulled up on her return to action at Wexford in August. However, Jessica Harrington's mare demonstrated a remarkable attitude when battling to victory at Navan last month (showing no ill-effects of her injury) and she could take full advantage of what looks a reasonable mark (94) on her handicap bow this afternoon. The progressive El Jo is feared most, but Emona Lad and Clorane shouldn't be underestimated either.

It's impossible to ignore the Galway Plate winner Sir Frederick who was probably unsuited by heavy ground when flopping off his revised mark at Tralee last time, but it could pay to focus on the Kerry National form, which featured eight of these runners. The winner, Ponmeoath, clearly enjoys a true test of stamina while the second, Ballycullen Boy, must also be high on the short-list, but the one to follow could be the third home, BALLYAGRAN, who chased home Sir Frederick in the Plate on his penultimate start and who remains relatively fresh after only two outings this year.

PRAIRIE MOONLIGHT is taken to get the better of Gemini Lucy in this event. The latter has rock solid form at this level and was considered good enough to contest the Arkle Chase at Cheltenham in March, but she was bitterly disappointing on her return to action in a handicap hurdle at Cork in July and is possibly best watched for now. The selection, however, has been a revelation switched back to fences this year and she didn't have to come off the bridle when winning a decent-looking novice event at the Galway Festival last time. Pacolet can chase the principal duo home.

BERNABEU showed promise in his first two starts over fences earlier in the year and has since registered a second career Flat success. He was well held in a Gowran handicap hurdle last Saturday but that was a competitive contest and he may represent decent value switched back to fences this afternoon. Blackhall Claw and Conem could give the selection most to worry about.

This could go the way of DOWN BY THE SEA, who was well held in two hurdle races but demonstrated a significant amount of improvement on her NH Flat debut when beaten only a neck at Wexford last time. She was bumped around a little in the final furlong that day and could go one better with a bit more luck in-running. The Paul Nolan newcomer Maisy Daisy is not easily ignored, but Nellie Has It is expected to provide the stiffest opposition.
