Wolfcatcher, a dual winner on the Flat in France when trained by Andre Fabre, must come into the reckoning on his hurdling debut and the market should tell us more. Perceus brings some decent Flat form to the table and is also noted, but those with experience are expected to come to the fore and SIKANDAR makes most appeal. Brian Ellison's charge was most impressive when winning a similar race at Bangor by six lengths last month and if building on that effort, he can successfully concede weight to the aforementioned pair.

This looks a match between MATORICO and Duke Des Champs and the former edges the vote on the basis that he created a sound impression when winning on his seasonal bow at Huntingdon last month. Highly tried in three starts as a juvenile last term, Jonjo O'Neill deemed his French recruit good enough to contest the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and the son of Mastercraftsman has clearly improved bundles over the summer. Philip Hobbs' Chepstow bumper winner cannot be completely overlooked following a creditable effort in defeat at Exeter last month, but Stout Cortez and Bold Prince Rupert might be forced to settle for a supporting roles.

Given the form of David Dennis' yard and his record at the Lincolnshire track, dual hurdles winner CYCLOP is expected to go very close. Lightly raced over fences after just two starts, the son of King's Theatre exploited 1lb lower over timber at Huntingdon 12 months ago and shaped with enough promise when third at Bangor last time to suggest a race of this nature is well within his grasp and that the step up in distance will suit. Red Danaher and Oficial Ben are feared most.

AREGRA sneaks into this select handicap under bottom weight and boasts sound claims on the back a pleasing performance on his chasing bow at Sedgefield in September. Peter Niven's charge showed little in the way of promise over hurdles, but he produced a career-best effort when taking to fences for the first time at the Durham track last time out and he's only 5lb higher for finishing half-a-length second. Ivans Back is the sole C&D winner in the field and has run well in defeat here the last twice, while Willie Hall isn't without claims on the pick of his form and similar sentiments also apply to C&D winner Hi Bob.

Geegeez Geegee represents a stable in excellent nick and makes plenty of appeal after he beat a future winner at Plumpton. He is reluctantly passed over in favour of PIXIEPOT, though, as Peter Niven's mare has really began to show her true ability over hurdles in recent starts and proved she handles a slower surface when finishing runner-up at Carlisle in November. Palm Grey is returning from a 200-day absence and was a five-length winner of a similar handicap at Hexham in March before struggling in stronger company at the end of his last campaign.

This looks to be a shrewd piece of placement by connections of VODKA ISLAND, who avoids a penalty for his success in a conditional jockeys' event at Ludlow, and runs before a 9lb hike in the handicap takes effect. He rates a confident selection here, but it would be dangerous to overlook Optical High, as he has been hinting that his winning turn is due and proved his stamina at Sedgefield in October. Hassadin is a pretty consistent type and can pick up some minor money.

David Dennis has a 44% strike-rate at Market Rasen this term and perhaps his Irish point winner DAULYS ANTHEM is worth a chance now he enters handicaps. His introductory mark doesn't look particularly lenient considering what he has achieved under Rules, and Renoyr has to enter calculations after an encouraging performance at this venue in November. Nebula Storm seemed much improved when making his first start for Michael Blake and the booking of the in-form conditional Harry Cobden augurs well for his chances.
