CHANGING THE GUARD won with any amount in hand at Uttoxeter last week and a 7lb penalty shouldn't be enough to stop him following up if reproducing that level of performance. Red Riverman looks an obvious danger on the back of his workmanlike victory over C&D, while Stravita, the mount of McCoy, and handicap debutant Bingo Des Mottes, are others to consider in what looks a fairly competitive opener.

This could go to the in-form TALK OF SAAFEND. She backed up her cosy course success over 2m3f with a game win on the Flat at Musselburgh last time and looks capable of doing some more damage despite a 10lb hike in the ratings. The Lemonpie arguably produced his best effort since sent hurdling when runner-up at Hereford two weeks ago and ought to go close if in the same mood here, while Allformary and Pas Trop Tard make up the shortlist.

LUCKY LANDING should prove difficult to beat with the champion jockey on his back for the first time. Tony Coyle's representative boosts winner form over fences at this venue and was probably sent for home too soon when idling and finishing runner-up in this sphere latest. He can go one better today if ridden with more restraint, while Trop Fort and hurdling debutant Indian Voyage look to be his biggest dangers.

It could pay to side with GEORGE WOOLF. The form of his runner-up effort over 2m4f at Hereford looks rock solid with the first and fourth both winning since and the way he finished off that race suggests that this extra furlong can only help. Dirty Bertie showed a likeable attitude when landing the spoils at Fontwell last time but an 8lb rise looks harsh, so course winner Dipity Doo Dah is most feared from lower down the weights.

COOL STAR is taken to make a winning debut over fences. He posted a couple of decent efforts when competing over hurdles around this time last year and has since notched up four victories between the flags. Lion On The Prowl faces his easiest assignment since sent chasing and ought to be there or thereabouts, while course winner Fennis Boy certainly isn't out of it either on his return from a break.

KIRKHAMMERTON likes it around here (won once and placed three times from six visits) and looks to have a big chance off bottom-weight. He enjoys a nice swing in the weights with Delgany Gunner for a half-length defeat at Uttoxeter and remains ridiculously well treated on his best form. Neil King's inmate still warrants respect but the biggest challenge may come from Silent Snow, who won nicely over C&D last time.

The form of MILLERS REEF's gritty Hereford success has been franked with the third and fourth winning since and, although a 7lb rise in the ratings is sure to make life tougher, he gets the vote to follow up. Blue Hills is sure to have plenty of supporters having won four of his last five starts, while Endeavor and first-time blinkered Clever Dick are others worthy of consideration.

MULLIGAN'S MAN is fancied to make a winning debut under Rules. He was snapped up for 20,000 pounds by Donald McCain shortly after his comfortable success between the flags at Stradbally in May and is sure to be ready for this. Be Devious and Langley House have both displayed a fair amount of ability, but Sedgefield third Party Girls is expected to ask most questions in receipt of all the allowances.
