Come On Sunshine won by eight lengths at Hexham on his hurdling debut and that looks head and shoulders above most of the form on offer. A 6lb penalty does make him slightly vulnerable, though, and it might be worth taking a leap of faith with VOSNE ROMANEE, who was in good form on the Flat and joins a yard that is adept at getting improvement from its newcomers. Any significant money for Officer Drivel would have to be taken seriously, while Intermath should enter calculations in new headgear for a shrewd handler.

Sure to be run at a cut-throat pace with Australia Day and Barizan around and the scene looks set for the late closers. Clerk's Choice remains a hurdler of some quality but has plenty on around this sharp track so a chance is taken that HAWDYERWHEESHT can put a modest recent effort behind him and contend off his lowly weight. He'd previously looked progressive and there's surely more to come after only four starts. The consistent duo of Rumble Of Thunder and Enchanted Garden should be in the mix but Serienschock is hard to evaluate on debut for David Pipe as his best French form has arrived on testing ground.

The most interesting runner in the field is SLIM PICKENS, a rapidly-improving Irish recruit representing Grand National-winning handler Dr Richard Newland. The son of Craigsteel has had just four runs over hurdles, but he's progressed immensely since joining the Worcestershire-based trainer and the manner in which he defied a winner's penalty in novice company at Worcester last month suggested he's a horse with a bright future. He's expected to play a huge part on his handicap debut, while Honour System looks to have been laid out for this representing last year's winning connections and the 2012 Supreme fourth Montbazon is another that commands respect.

BOOK'EM DANNO continued on his upward trajectory with another C&D success recently - adding to his tally of five previous victories from eight starts - and a career high mark of 130 may not be insurmountable in his current mood. Jonjo O'Neill is typically well represented with It's A Gimme appearing to be on a handy weight after a confidence-boosting success at Worcester and The Nephew arrives fresh from a facile victory over track and trip. Woodbank might have a squeak outside of those principal contenders, as he has shown some promise for a new yard and has some stamina in his pedigree.

Autun is an interesting newcomer for the Brian Ellison team having been a useful Flat handicapper, although he showed nothing on his first run for new connections at Haydock in May. Those with jumping experience may prove too strong for him first time up and PARLOUR GAMES is narrowly preferred after being beaten at long odds-on last time. A tongue tie is now applied and his Flat class may prove decisive on the forecast good ground around this sharp track. Discay and Norfolk Sky have already shown enough to take advantage should the selection fail to fire again.

Quite a few have something to prove, notably Leader Of The Gang who showed no aptitude for fences on debut at Hexham and is surely better than that, whilst Welsh Bard's chasing debut suggested he'll need to improve considerably here. Kitegen has looked laboured the last twice so the choice falls between Dreamsoftheatre and HOLLOW PENNY, with the latter preferred. Alan King's charge only went down by half a length to It's A Gimme on his fencing debut and with the benefit of that experience, can make the most of a 10lb concession from Dreamsoftheatre, who has posted a decent effort on all three chasing starts and should do so again.

French Ties (second) and Teenage Dream (third) are closely matched based on their course efforts over 2m4f last month and both warrant close consideration as they bid to recapture the winning thread. Amuse Me is better than he has shown of late and cannot be overlooked either, but OWEN NA VIEW almost exploited 5lb lower when making his handicap debut over the larger obstacles at Perth and that effort can be built upon here.
