MCGROARTY managed to win a point-to-point and a bumper by clear margins in Ireland last month and he warrants the utmost respect on his debut for a yard in good form at the moment. Hestina is an obvious danger given her two wins back in April but the Dan Skelton representative may struggle to give 5lb to the selection. Tred Softly is a newcomer to hurdling to note given the connections he represents.

Last year's winner Red Tornado has to be respected, despite a lack of good recent form, given that he arrives here just 1lb higher in the ratings and he may have been aimed at this race for quite a while. That said, preference is for KAPSTADT, who is only 5lb higher than when he was successful at Cheltenham back in December. More recently he has been running very well on the Flat, winning at Newmarket last month and finishing a respectable seventh in the Old Newton Cup last time out. Curious Carlos and Mad Jack Mytton are closely matched based on their Aintree form and both can be expected to go well.

A race that lacks strength in depth and the nod has to go to MISTER SHOWMAN despite the fact that the four-year-old has to give weight to his older rivals. He made a winning debut over hurdles back in May and he has made the frame in both subsequent starts. Blue Comet does have plenty of experience but his form is not overly strong and the biggest threat to the selection may be Pop The Champers. The son of Scorpion has won his last two starts between the flags and he would not have to be a superstar to go well on his Rules debut.

A typically competitive renewal of summer jumping's flagship event see all the top yards represented and plenty who have leading chances. Champion trainer Nicky Henderson has yet to win this contest and he saddles Days Of Heaven who arrives in the form of his life having won his last three outings over fences but the son of Saint Des Saints has a career high mark to deal with. Poker School was subject to significant support ante-post but has to prove himself as a well-handicapped horse which hasn't looked the case on his last couple of starts. I'dliketheoption won well here back in May and has an ideal profile for a race of this nature but preference goes to SHELFORD. Dan and Harry Skelton teamed up 12 months ago with Long House Hall to land this prize and this son of Galileo looks dangerously handicapped on his hurdles form and there was no disgrace in chasing home Tempestatefloresco in the Summer Cup at Uttoxeter last time. The drop back in trip is arguably a positive to his claims. Others to consider include top-weight Henryville, as he will relish the end-to-end gallop, and the progressive Midnight Shot.

WHATZDJAZZ bolted up by 11 lengths in a novice hurdle at Worcester earlier in the month and is expected to remain competitive now moving into handicaps, albeit now 7lb higher. Rainy City is fitted with first-time cheekpieces after failing to justify favouritism over fences here last time and should be thereabouts too. The pick of the remainder may be Excellent Result, who rattled the crossbar in a novices hurdle at Huntingdon in April and has been active on the level more recently.

Watching briefs are advised on Rouge Devils and Chebsey Beau whilst River Of Intrigue needs to improve despite inhabiting an attractive mark. Brian Boranha should improve on his chasing debut here but will need to and LOVELY JOB and Marquis Of Carabas look the ones to focus on. Lovely Job defied a lengthy absence to score with any amount in hand at Uttoxeter and is taken to follow up despite a 9lb hike, appealing as a progressive sort over fences. Marquis Of Carabas, in good heart, looks solid and rates the major danger despite the concession of weight all round.

The Harrison yard has been in good form in the past week and MUWALLA has every chance if repeating a really good effort at Perth last Sunday when just going down to Tangolan in a decent handicap chase. The drop in trip isn't an issue and he can take advantage of receiving weight all round, with his pilot's claim an additional bonus. Royal Plaza receives little leniency from the assessor but should give a sound account although Are They Your Own rates the main danger, remaining open to further progress over fences and arguably unfortunate not to score last time.
