Quaviste was still in contention when falling here last month. He could bounce back representing a trainer that has won five of the last nine renewals, while Japetus won a maiden hurdle over C&D and also merits consideration, despite his penalty. However, a large chunk of FOUR SPRINGS' penalty is negated by his conditional rider's 5lb allowance, so Ben Pauling's charge is taken to confirm the promise of his emphatic victory at Hereford and go in again.
JAPETUS showed a willing attitude when winning over C&D on his hurdles debut and is taken to defy a penalty here. He was a dual winner in the bumper sphere previously and his sole defeat under rules has worked out very well. Ben Pauling holds a strong hand here with Four Springs and Caliach Point. The latter left his debut form behind when runner up last time but his stablemate looks the first string on jockey bookings. That rival made a winning debut over hurdles and his point form suggests he should be capable of better. He can throw down the main challenge ahead of Quaviste who was still going ok when coming down here last time and likely has more to offer for his top stable.

Fourth over timber at Huntingdon recently, Clap Of Thunder will need to improve off his current mark on his first start over fences, but NORDIC TIGER looks more attractively weighted. Harry Derham's charge finished a respectable second at Ludlow on his chasing bow and, having won off a 2lb higher mark over hurdles, the six-year-old is set to make another bold bid. Benmore is preferred to Kykorock and Maghlaak of the recent winners.
Benmore is likely to prove popular following a cosy victory last time where he brushed up on his jumping. He looks well treated up 4lb and holds solid claims but could be vulnerable to chase debutant CLAP OF THUNDER. He ran well for a long way on his reappearance following a wind op and is entitled to come on significantly for that. He showed a consistent level of form over hurdles and starts chasing off a lenient mark so ought to go close if his jumping holds up. Nordic Tiger finished well when runner up on his chase debut off a much reduced mark hinting at a revival and should appreciate this slightly longer trip. He's another who looks fairly treated on his hurdle form and can make his presence felt.

He's unexposed over 2 1/2m in handicaps and can get the better of course specialist Gms Prince. This represents DELGANY DEADLINE's third start in a handicap and he could improve past his rivals. Dan Skelton's charge finished a fair fourth over an extended 2m3f at Chepstow on his return and may have more to offer over this longer trip. Orange Diamond has tasted success in three of his five outings for the Tom Ellis stable and put in another good display when second at Doncaster last time, so he has to be respected. Hawkseye View is the pick of the remainder.
DELGANY DEADLINE is chosen to make a winning chase debut here. He ran well for a long way over hurdles on his reappearance until his fitness gave way and his previous effort suggests this step back up in trip would be of big benefit. He starts out chasing off a generous mark and is open to plenty of further improvement for his top connections so should be able to defeat the frustrating Hawkseye View. The consistent maiden was out-battled late over C&D last time but is unexposed over 3m and the first time cheekpieces could help his finishing effort. Ali Star Bert won going away to complete a double at Southwell and boasts obvious claims, but QUEENS WISH's triumph at the same venue was arguably more impressive last month. The daughter of Shantou made her way through the field to score readily that day and may have been worth more than the winning margin suggests, so she can defy her 7lb rise. Red Delta completes the shortlist.
Sue Smith can follow up last year's success in this with THE BIG BREAC whose 3m chase debut victory has been franked. He ran a huge race next time off 1lb lower which demonstrated his stamina for marathon trips. The runner up that day has given the form a boost at Cheltenham and the jockey booking here suggests another big run is expected. Red Delta is feared most after making an improving rival who had the run of the race pull out all the stops last time. He's gone up 4lb for that but still looks well treated on his hunter chase form and he should relish this extra distance. Ivane is proven over staying trips and has been thriving since a move to this yard earlier in the year. He remains on a workable mark and can fight for a place if his stamina holds up.

Despite Jack Andrews dropping his reins at a vital stage, SECRET VINO still managed to score by over a length at Southwell last month and is now 7lb higher. The step back up in trip could bring out the improvement required to go in again. Nowmelad occupied the runner-up berth at this level at Uttoxeter earlier this month and has to be respected, despite a 2lb higher mark. Smart Decision has only been defeated twice in six starts and is considered on handicap debut.
It could be worth taking a chance with BELLE LE GRAND here. She was twice a winner in the spring and hinted at a revival on her penultimate start when she came down when looking a threat off 2lb higher than her current mark of 112. She was well held next time but it was in a better race than this where she found 2m too sharp. Stepped up in distance she can beat the prolific Smart Decision whose latest novice win looks strong form. He could be well treated for his handicap debut despite top weight and can fight for a place with the consistent Nowmelad. The unexposed The Long Walk is also of interest at a bigger price judged on his maiden win. He stopped quickly last time on his handicap debut but is entitled to come on significantly for that first run since the spring.
