Some interesting Flat recruits here, none more so than the 83-rated Duke Street, who tasted victory on four of his last six outings on the level. This can go the way of LEONCAVALLO, though, who has been foot-perfect in his three outings over timber to date, and looks more than capable of conceding weight all round. Cooper scored easily on his hurdling bow at Sedgefield and is another to consider closely, along with Pinkie Brown.

Gran Maestro has his first hurdles start since landing the Summer Plate over C&D in July and should figure prominently from just a 4lb higher mark. Manhattan Swing was a close third to that rival on that occasion, but has scored since, and it will be interesting to see how he fares against his reopposing foe on less favourable terms. That duo are contenders, but perhaps it is worth trying SWANSEA MILE, who makes a big step up in class on his first start for Dan Skelton, but showed promise when recording back-to-back victories in Ireland for Ted Walsh. The versatile Broughton is dangerous to discount, and any market support behind Cloonacool could prove noteworthy.

GRAY HESSION is currently on an upward curve and is expected to go well for a yard that has recently been amongst the winners. He stayed on well to lead near the finish over the extended 2m4f last time and is likely to get his ideal ground. Valco De Touzaine had Gold Futures in arrears when runner-up in a competitive heat at Newton Abbot last month, while Cloud Creeper could step up on his latest effort at Haydock and also take a hand.

A poor race for the grade and FOREVER MY FRIEND is the very tentative selection as he is the only one who brings recent winning form to the table, albeit in a weak race. If he were to disappoint then it's a game of guess who might bounce back to form, with the most likely being He's A Bully. His form has tailed off recently but his runs at Uttoxeter and Huntingdon before that were solid in the context of this race. Of the rest Master Neo and Sureness are others worthy of consideration.

This could well turn into a match between Anomaly and VIENS CHERCHER as they both ran to similar marks when winning last time out. The slight preference goes to Viens Chercher because he has more experience as he had six runs over jumps in France before his win at Sedgefield. Anomaly is hard to pass over as he could well prove to be very good in this sphere, while Double W's was a useful bumper horse last season and shouldn't be completely ruled out.

DON PADEJA couldn't hold his position in a stronger 0-135 handicap at this venue in August, but has been dropped 2lb for that performance, and can fare much better in a lesser race. The main danger could be Alf Wright, who is surely capable of better than he showed on his first start for these connections at Stratford. Fair Loch arrives with his confidence buoyed by success in a seller at this venue, and any market support behind the returning Ben Cee Pee M and Asockastar could prove noteworthy.

A good-looking bumper can go the way of DESERTMORE HILL. Peter Bowen's charge won in the style of a useful sort at Warwick in April, and he appeals as the type to keep progressing with that victory under his belt. Captain Bocelli is the logical danger and the six-year-old won't go down without a fight. Richard Johnson has a good record for Charlie Longsdon, so Scorpion Princess should be taken seriously, along with Point The Way.
