MAHLERVOUS ran to a high level in another three-runner affair here last month when just touched off in second behind a winner with previous chasing experience, and could go one better for Warren Greatrex. All three of his career successes have come on good ground, and the seven-year-old looks set to race on a decent terrain once more here. Espoir De Teillee has had injury issues but was a wide-margin scorer at Ludlow when last seen, while Southfield Stone is also dangerous for Paul Nicholls, who landed this prize in 2017 with Frodon.

Federici finished fifth in the Becher Chase at Aintree in December 2018 and has dropped to a tempting mark after a wind operation. He obviously needs to improve after being pulled up the last twice, but his price could be big enough to make it worth the risk. Valadom was successful in a similar event at Catterick 10 days ago but has a 6lb rise to contend with, and this can go the way of NO NO MAC. Second here on New Year's Day, the 11-year-old should enjoy this drop in trip and will probably be given an aggressive ride once more.

ASHINGTON has taken well to hurdling in four attempts for John Quinn, winning twice, and was far from disgraced when finishing third here recently under Brian Hughes. The five-year-old travelled powerfully there, just failing to get home after a 56-day break, and should be sharper now off an unchanged mark. Miranda showed a lovely attitude to strike at Kempton on her most recent outing but would probably prefer some give in the ground, while Kaizer was successful here on the level in September and could be one for those seeking a little more value.

CRACKING DESTINY was touched off by a head when second over 2m4f here on New Year's Day and is expected to gain compensation for that near-miss now dropping back to 2m. Locker Room Talk has been in good order in recent months and a 5lb rise for scoring over a similar trip at Sandown is unlikely to prevent him from mounting another bold bid. Double W's also commands the utmost respect now eased in grade.

There was plenty to like about the way LITTLE BRUCE went about his business in landing the North Yorkshire Grand National last month and Philip Kirby's progressive stayer, who also landed the Cambridgeshire National at Huntingdon in the spring, appears an ideal type for this assignment. Sumkindofking has slipped to a workable mark and is considered the main danger after chasing home the selection at Catterick. Veteran Harry The Viking has slipped to his last winning mark and would be a popular winner, though a bigger threat may be Wonderful Charm if he can build on his solid hunters' chase form from last year.

BATHSHEBA BAY was a useful performer on the level for Richard Hannon and got off the mark on his third attempt over hurdles at Taunton. An opening mark of 114, combined with this speed test likely playing to his strengths, could see him prove too strong on his handicap bow. Royal Cosmic has to enter the reckoning based on her novice success over C&D last month, while others to note include Zabeel Star and Blooriedotcom.

SOUTHFIELD VIC arrives in search of a five-timer after a productive spell in this sphere last spring and this appeals as being the ideal starting place for his season, with ground conditions likely to be in his favour. Mr Mercurial is entitled to step forward from his point-to-point outing at Alnwick in December, while Band Of Blood could enter the reckoning with first-time cheekpieces applied on his hunter chase debut.
