Par Excellence produced her best effort to date when winning a 5f seller on Lingfield's polytrack, but failed to figure in a fast-ground Beverley claimer last time, so preference is for unexposed MARTHARUM who ran well enough when second in a 5f Thirsk claimer to suggest she can win a race of this nature. Garstang might have to settle for a place again.
Sir Mark Prescott boasts a tremendous strike-rate at this track and might be on the mark again with DREAM FANTASY who created a good impression when winning a 6f maiden at Chepstow and is bred to relish this extra furlong. Irish import Money Mate warrants respect on his domestic debut, while Always Baileys and Lindus Atenor have improved in each race so far and Bond Angel Eyes represents a trainer who had four winners on Saturday.
Toss The Caber appears to have enough weight for what he has achieved in selling company recently, but the fitting of blinkers helped Spanish Law to improve on previous efforts and win a 7f banded stakes at Carlisle, a result which suggests he might have more to offer. A chance is taken on SUTURIA, however, as she has been in decent form over 7f and seems sure to appreciate this longer trip.
It was a poor race in which Sahara Silk opened her account on turf at Beverley recently, so MUARA gets the nod. After shaping well in 6f maidens, she was trying 5f for the first time when making her debut in handicap company a winning one at Redcar on Saturday and connections are quick to run her under a penalty. Stargem got no run from over a furlong out at Windsor a fortnight ago and could be returning to form.
Having clearly strengthened up since ending last season on a winning note, PASSION FRUIT was a clear-cut winner over 6f at Carlisle last Tuesday - The Old Soldier 3 lengths adrift but 6lb better off - and must have another good chance under her penalty. Kalani Star has been knocking on the door and is likely to be thereabouts again.
Platinum Charmer avoids a penalty for winning a 1m3f apprentices' event at Warwick last Monday, but that looked a weak race and a chance is taken on COLWAY RITZ who, despite his age and a long losing run, appears to have been given a chance at the weights. Patricia Philomena has been absent since August 2003, but the mere fact that she has been kept in training suggests some ability has been retained.
